A method of operating a fuel injector includes determining a fuel pressure and a total fuel mass Mto be injected per combustion cycle, defining first and second pulse widths PWand PWcorresponding to first and second commanded fuel masses CMand CMwherein CM+CM=M, actuating the injector for the first and second pulse widths, detecting an opening delay for the injector, and storing the opening delay. The method may further include increasing PWand decreasing PWby a predetermined amount, repeating selected steps until PWis less than or equal to a predetermined minimum pulse width, changing the fuel pressure by a predetermined pressure amount, cycling through selected steps until the fuel pressure reaches a predetermined target fuel pressure, and commanding the injector to open earlier than a normally commanded opening time by a lead time based on stored opening delay data.

A vehicle propulsion system includes a first pump having an inlet for receiving fuel from a fuel reservoir and an outlet for providing pressurized fuel to a fuel feed line at a first pressure, a fuel feed line pressure sensor, a second pump having an inlet for receiving fuel from the fuel feed line and an outlet for providing pressurized fuel to an engine fuel rail at a second pressure, the second pressure being higher than the first pressure, a fuel temperature sensor, and a controller controlling the first pump to reduce the pressure of the fuel in the fuel feed line and determining whether the pressure of the fuel in the fuel feed line has reached a vaporization pressure of a component in the fuel.

A fuel system for a vehicle propulsion system includes a fuel temperature determination module that determines a temperature of a fuel, a fuel pressure determination module that determines a pressure of the fuel, a prime determination module that determines whether the determined fuel temperature is above a vaporization temperature on a predetermined distillation curve and the fuel pressure is below the predetermined distillation curve at the determined fuel temperature, and a controller programmed to command operation of a fuel pump in response to the prime determination module determining that the determined fuel temperature is above a vaporization temperature on the predetermined distillation curve and the fuel pressure is below the predetermined distillation curve at the determined fuel temperature.

Method and system for fuel control in a vehicle propulsion system

A gasoline Reid vapor pressure (RVP) detection system includes a fuel pump and a motor operating the fuel pump in a forward direction of rotation to feed a gasoline fuel to a vehicle engine. A control device is in communication with the motor selectively directing change from the forward direction of rotation to a reverse direction of rotation opposite to the forward direction of rotation. A pressure reduction device receives flow of the fuel during operation in the reverse direction of rotation and reduces a pressure of the fuel until fuel vaporization occurs. A pump speed at which vaporization of the fuel occurs at the pressure reduction device when a motor speed and a motor current change non-linearly is correlated to a fuel RVP.

A method of translating instructions from a target instruction set to a host instruction set. In one embodiment, a plurality of first target instructions is translated into a plurality of first host instructions. After the translation, it is determined whether the plurality of first target instructions has changed. A copy of a second plurality of target instructions is stored and compared with the plurality of first target instructions if the determining slows the operation of the computer system. After comparing, the plurality of first host instructions is invalidated if there is a mismatch. According to one embodiment, the storing, the comparing and the invaliding is initiated when the determining indicates that a page contains at least one change to the plurality of first target instructions. In one embodiment, the determining is by examining a bit indicator associated with a memory location of the plurality of first target instructions.

In a computer system that translates target instructions from a target instruction set into host instructions from a host instruction set, a method for checking a sequence of target instructions for changes. The method includes testing whether the target instructions at a memory location have changed subsequent to the translating by examining a bit indicator associated with the memory location and determining whether the testing is slowing the operation of the computer system. If the testing is slowing the operation of the computer system, a checking process initiated, which includes storing a copy of the sequence of target instructions and comparing the copy with the sequence of target instructions.

A method for maintaining consistency between translated host instructions and target instructions from which the host instructions have been translated including the steps of maintaining a copy of a target instruction for which a translated host instruction have been made, comparing the copy of the target instruction with a target instruction at a memory address at which the target instruction from which the copy was made was stored when translated, disabling the translated host instruction if the copy of the target instruction is not the same as the target instruction at the memory address, and executing the translated host instruction if the copy of the target instruction is the same as the target instruction at the memory address.
