The present invention is directed to a heterogeneous gas phase polymerization process to produce true polyacetylene (PA; CH) in powder form, and the resultant PA product. The present invention is additionally directed to a chlorinated polyacetylene (CPA) compound comprised of primarily CHCl units and CH double bond units. The CPA compound can be comprised of at least 67.3 wt % Cl, and have a weight average molecular weight (Mw) as measured by GPC of greater than 30,000 and contain less than 1.0 mol % carbon-carbon branching. The CPA compound according to the invention can exhibit a glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least about 185&#xb0; C. to about 270&#xb0; C.

Polyacetylene and chlorinated polyacetylene and production processes thereof

CPVC pipe in diameters in the range from 15 mm (0.5 inch) to 15.24 cm (6 ins), to carry hot and cold aqueous streams under 690 KPa (100 psi) pressure and 82.2&#xb0; C. (180&#xb0; F.) in continuous service, is extruded from a compound in which the CPVC has a high Cl content in the range from 66.5%-70%, when modified with either of two specific impact high rubber modifiers in an amount greater than 5 parts but no more than 6 parts per 100 parts of CPVC. Extruded CPVC pipe provides a HDB measured according to ASTM D2837-01 which is 25% or more greater than that required for commercial pipe as specified in ASTM D2846. As a result, both SDR-11 and SDR-13.5 pipe are produced which provide a HDB of at least 1250 psi (8.62 MPa) at the 100,000 hr intercept.

Fire sprinkler system comprising a network of CPVC pipe lengths in which at least some of the pipe lengths are interconnected with mechanical devices having resilient sealing members that are chemically compatible with the CPVC composition. Repairs and system modifications can be made without the use of solvent cement. In-line joints are formed with a coupling device including a pair of arcuate coupling segments having a first end, a second end, and an interior concave surface extending between the first end and the second end. A longitudinal channel extends along the concave surface. At least one mechanical fastener is operative to detachably connect the pair of coupling segments. A resilient annular seal is located within the longitudinal channel of each segment. A branching device connects a branch pipe to a main pipe through an orifice in the main pipe utilizing a saddle-like sealing member. The pipe assemblies are able to pass UL testing protocols for wet fire sprinkler systems.

A multi-layered pipe of arbitrary length and cross-section is produced by co-extrusion of a lower polyolefin (C&#x2013;C) outer body over the exterior surface of a tubular core of randomly, partially randomly, or blocky chlorinated lower polyolefin, the core having a wall thickness, measured in the radial direction, in the range from about 0.025 mm to 5 mm. The tubular core is coextensive with essentially the entire length of the pipe. The tubular core comprises a major proportion by weight of the randomly chlorinated polyolefin (r-CPO), or, partially randomly chlorinated polyolefin (pr-CPO), or, a blocky chlorinated polyolefin (b-CPO), any of which may be blended with a minor proportion by weight of a blending ingredient. The r-CPO, pr-CPO or b-CPO, or a blend thereof, each has an extrusion temperature in the same range as that for the corresponding non-halogenated polyolefin, namely in the range from about 150&#xb0; C. to 250&#xb0; C.

A multilayer composite pipe structure is described. The multilayer composite pipe comprises a hollow inner conduit, a first layer of adhesive, a metallic intermediate layer, a second layer of adhesive, as well as, the outer thermoplastic layer, respectively. The hollow inner conduit is made from any rigid thermoplastic material. The outer thermoplastic layer is made from a rigid, amorphous thermoplastic polymer. This multilayer composite pipe is pressure bearing. In one embodiment, the multilayer composite pipe is solvent cementable; whereas in another embodiment, the multilayer composite pipe is heat fusible. In still yet another embodiment of the invention, the multilayer composite pipe is bendable. Furthermore, the multilayer composite pipe can be used in a fluid conduit system with fittings with an optional insert.

The present invention relates to a low VOC solvent based adhesive comprising a mixture of at least two organic solvents and a thermoplastic resin. Desirably the adhesive has a flash point of at least 100.degree. F. when measured in accordance with ASTM D3828-87. The solvent blend of the low VOC solvent based adhesive of the instant invention volatilizes at substantially reduced rates as compared to conventional solvent blends in solvent based adhesives. Furthermore, this novel low VOC solvent based adhesive is easy to apply, cost effective, and cures within a reasonable time without the use of heat, ultraviolet light or other mechanical devices. In addition, the novel low VOC solvent based adhesive has good storage stability in metal or non-metal containers.

A bone marrow biopsy needle includes an outer tube having a lumen extending therethrough which narrows at the distal end of the outer tube. An inner tube is slidable through the lumen of the outer tube and includes a pair of pincers at its distal end. As the inner tube is slid through the lumen of the outer tube, the pincers will encounter the narrowed portion of the lumen and as the pincers extend beyond an opening at the distal end of the outer tube, the pincers close upon themselves, and in this manner the pincers can grasp a biopsy core from bone marrow of a patient. The pincers may have sharpened edges and/or have their edges bent radially inwardly so as to enhance the cutting of the biopsy core from the bone marrow.

A process for recovering a hydrocarbon from a hydrocarbon bearing sand comprising the steps of mixing a chemical additive with a chemical composition and with a hydrocarbon bearing sand containing hydrocarbon and residual solids including clay, at a temperature to form a slurry. The chemical composition comprises an aqueous phase and a minor amount of a chemical agent selected from the group consisting of at least one ethoxylated alkylphenol compound, at least one ethoxylated dialkylphenol compound, MIBC, SC-177, Petronate HL, Clacium Lignosulfonate and mixtures thereof. The slurry is aerated to produce essentially sludge-free tailings and a mixture of hydrocarbon, aqueous phase and residual solids including clay. The process further comprises the step of separating the mixture of the hydrocarbon, the aqueous phase and the residual solids including clay from the essentially sludge-free tailings.

Process for recovery of hydrocarbons and rejection of sand

A process for preparing an oil-in-aqueous phase emulsion and removing contaminants from a contaminated hydrocarbon. The process comprises mixing a contaminated hydrocarbon with a reactant and an emulsifying composition. Contaminants are removed from the contaminated hydrocarbon either during the mixing, after the mixing, or during the combustion of the mixture, or after combustion of the mixture such as from combustion flue gases.

A process for producing bitumen employing a borehole that has been drilled into a subterranean hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir having a hydrocarbon. A void space is created at the bottom of the borehole. A bundle of spring-loaded guide tubes is inserted through the borehole and into the void space. Each guide tube is enclosed with a smaller diameter flexible tube that is connected to a source of an emulsifying composition comprising an aqueous phase and an emulsifying agent. The emulsifying agent comprises first and a second ethoxylated alkylphenol compounds wherein at least 1% by weight include more than 100 ethoxy groups. The emulsifying composition is released through the flexible tubes to form an oil-in-aqueous phase emulsion in the reservoir. The oil-in-aqueous emulsion is removed from the reservoir.
