The invention relates to a dental device and an edible pet chew. The dental device comprises a dental protection composition containing at least one barrier material, at least one activated phosphatidylcholine, and, optionally, mineral oil. The edible pet chew comprises a dental protection composition, gelatin, and, optionally, one or more humectants, one or more preservatives, one or more structure-providing components, and one or more flavoring ingredients, wherein the dental protection composition contains at least one barrier material, at least one phosphatidylcholine, and, optionally, mineral oil.

A method and apparatus is described for gradually transitioning a slider from operation over a patterned data zone to landing on a patterned CSS zone. The ratio of raised area width to recessed area width of a pattern in a transition zone and/or CSS zone may be varied across the radial dimension of the disk. By changing the ratio of raised area width to recessed area width of the pattern in the transition from slider operation over the data zone to landing in the CSS zone, it is possible to gradually change the height of the slider from flying to non-flying conditions.

A method for manufacturing a substrate for a magnetic disk comprises the acts of mounting a workpiece on a spindle; rotating the workpiece and scribing the workpiece to form first and second scribe lines on the top surface of the workpiece and first and second scribe lines on the bottom surface of the workpiece; and breaking the workpiece along the first and second scribe lines. The first scribe line on the top and bottom surface of the work piece defines the outer diameter of the substrate. The second scribe line on the top and bottom surface of the workpiece define the inner diameter of the substrate. Because scribe lines are formed on the top and bottom surfaces of the workpiece, the edge of the substrate is less jagged than substrates that are merely scribed on one side of the workpiece and then broken. Because the scribe lines are formed by mounting the workpiece on a spindle and rotating the substrate, the scribing can be done more precisely and quickly than scribe lines formed using an x-y platform.
