A landing gear assembly includes a leg assembly, a gear assembly configured to telescopingly move a second leg portion with respect to a first leg portion, and a drive assembly including a gear arrangement configured to drive the drive shaft of the gear assembly at a high speed and low torque configuration and at a low speed and high torque configuration, an electric motor configured to drive the gear arrangement, and a controller configured to switch the gear arrangement from the high speed and low torque configuration to the low speed and high torque configuration in response to an increase in current draw by the electric motor as the second leg portion moves from a retracted to an extended position, and configured to maintain the gear arrangement in the high speed and low torque configuration as the second portion moves from the extended position toward the retracted position.

A system for detecting disposal of metallic objects into an opening of a medical waste container, including: an indicator for indicating passage of metallic objects through the opening, a pair of receive coils and a transmit coil spaced therebetween shaped for receiving waste therethrough adjacent to the opening, and a controller in electrical communication with the coils. The controller generates and communicates a transmit signal to the transmit coil, which generates a magnetic field that induces voltage in each of the receive coils, which each generate a receive signal. The controller generates a waveform based on the receive signals with a baseline corresponding to absence of metallic objects, and analyzes the waveform with respect to opposite first and second thresholds. The controller activates the indicator in response to metallic objects passing through the coils when the waveform first exceeds the first threshold and then subsequently exceeds the second threshold.

A system for monitoring a trailer hitch assembly includes a first sensor sensing the position of a kingpin of a trailer relative to a throat of a hitch plate, a second sensor sensing a position of the locking mechanism movable between locked and unlocked positions, a control circuit coupled with the first sensor and determining whether the first sensor indicates a proper location of the kingpin relative to the throat and whether the second sensor indicates that the locking mechanism is in the locked position, and a light source proximate the throat of the kingpin and activated when the control circuit determines that the kingpin is properly located and that the locking mechanism is in the locked position, such that the light source illuminates the throat and the kingpin assisting visual inspection of the position of the kingpin relative to the throat.
