A fluid ejection system includes a fluid ejection die and a controller. The fluid ejection die includes a plurality of nozzles to eject fluid drops and a plurality of strain gauge sensors to sense strain within the fluid ejection die. The controller is to receive the sensed strain from each strain gauge sensor to determine a status of the fluid ejection die.

A fluid ejection system includes a fluid ejection die, a service station assembly, and a controller. The fluid ejection die includes at least one strain gauge sensor to sense strain. The service station assembly is to service the fluid ejection die. The controller is to receive the sensed strain from the at least one strain gauge sensor during servicing of the fluid ejection die and adjust or stop servicing of the fluid ejection die in response to the sensed strain exceeding a servicing threshold.

An example printer includes an actuator selection engine. The actuator selection engine is to determine, for an array including a plurality of fluidic actuators, which fluidic actuators to fire. The printer also includes a balancing engine. The balancing engine is to analyze the determined fluidic actuators to identify a large set of fluidic actuators scheduled to fire substantially simultaneously. The balancing engine is also to schedule the large set of fluidic actuators among a plurality of fire pulse groups. Each fire pulse group may include a subset of the large set of fluidic actuators to be fired at a time distinct from another subset.

A mass-storage device according to an embodiment of the invention is disclosed that includes a laser and an indication mechanism. The laser at least optically writes to an optically writable surface of an optical disc incident to the laser. The indication mechanism indicates whether the optically writable surface incident to the laser is an optically writable label surface or an optically writable data surface of the optical disc.

A method for using an optical sensor array to control a labeling device includes scanning a surface texture of an imageable media with the optical sensor array, collecting surface data corresponding to the surface texture of the imageable media, and controlling the labeling device in response to the surface data.

In one embodiment, a disk labeling system is configured to use calibration indicia to produce calibration data. A disk is then marked using a laser in a first position. The laser is then deflected from the first position into a second position, by applying an input according to the calibration data. The disk is then marked using the laser in the second position.

In various embodiments, an optical disc drive, programs embodiment in computer readable media, and related methods for writing a label to an optical disc using an optical disc drive. In one embodiment, a label is written on the optical disc, the label being embodied in a plurality of tracks that are written onto a surface of the optical disc. A delay is imposed between the writing of consecutive ones of the tracks in the optical disc drive. The length of the delay is determined in part by a length of time it takes to transition from a completion of a first one of the tracks to a starting position to write a next consecutive one of the tracks.

An optically addressable display includes a plurality of receptor and emitter pairs where each pair is for receiving optical display information and for generating light indicative of the display information. Each individual receptor and emitter pair is coupled electrically by an associated control circuit that facilitates driving the emitter so it generates either the received display information or annotation information generated by a light wand that is capable of being optically coupled to individual ones of the plurality of receptors. Each control circuit has a pulse density capture circuit that receives a pulse train signal indicative of a desired brightness or hue levels and drives an individual one of the emitters on and off at a determined duty cycle to produce the desired brightness or hue levels. In another embodiment sets of receptor and emitter pairs are grouped in cells, where each cell is capable of generating N of shades of different colors.

A method of an embodiment of the invention rotates an optical disc having an optically writable label side. The optical disc is radially scanned with a laser incident to the optically writable label side, from a first edge of the optical disc to a second edge of the optical disc. While the laser is radially scanned from the first edge to the second edge of the optical disc, a first radius at which markings have not been written to the optically writable label side of the optical disc, next to a second radius at which markings have been written to the optically writable label side of the optical disc, is detected.

A display system and method are provided. The system typically includes a display configured to control visible light, as well as to sense an optical signal projected thereon, the display being adapted to freeze a projected image by storing the optical signal associated with the live projected image in memory associated with the display and controlling visible light corresponding to the stored optical signal to form a frozen projection image.

A method of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed that determines optical disc vertical displacement information at a number of positions on an optical disc. The method interpolates optical disc vertical displacement information at a number of other positions on the optical disc from the vertical displacement information determined.

A method is disclosed for positioning an optical labeling mechanism substantially close to a particular track of a labeling surface on an optical disk. The method can include the operation of positioning the optical labeling mechanism adjacent to the particular track. A further operation can be measuring a first surface texture of the labeling surface using the optical labeling mechanism. Another operation can involve positioning the optical labeling mechanism adjacent to a different track. A further operation can be moving the optical labeling mechanism from the different track toward the particular track location. Another operation can involve measuring a second surface texture of the labeling surface using the optical labeling mechanism. A further operation can be comparing the first and second surface textures to determine if the optical labeling mechanism is positioned substantially near the particular track.
