Methods and systems for the controlled production of aqueous halogen solutions with varying compositions are disclosed. According to an embodiment, aqueous solutions of hypochlorite ions are modified through the sequential addition of pH adjusting chemicals, non-chloride halide ions, and halogen stabilizing compounds. Sensors, for measuring physical and chemical properties of the solutions as they change due to the impact of the various chemical reactions, are linked to a control system which, in turn, can control the input of one or more chemicals. The control system facilitates the production of a solution with desired characteristics in terms of pH, specific halogen composition, degree of halogen stabilization, and limiting the production of undesired by products such as bromate ions.

Controlled production of aqueous halogen solutions with varying compositions

Disclosed in the present invention are methods for the electrochemical generation of aqueous organic haloamine solutions from precursor solutions comprising at least one halide-containing salt, at least one organic amine component, and an acid additive. The described method allows for the production of aqueous organic haloamine solutions with compositions ranging from a single organic haloamine component to multiple organic haloamine components and multiple free halogen components and solutions with desired pH values.

Electrolytic production of organic chloramine solutions

Disclosed in the present invention are methods and apparatuses for the electrochemical conversion of halide ion containing brines into halogen based disinfection solutions while the impact of scale formation on electrochemical system operations. This is accomplished by controllably modifying the brine with one or more of halide ions, a halogen stabilization compound, an acid component, or a buffering component. These chemical modifications of the brine allow for the production of stabilized 10 halogen solutions, which can then be used as disinfectants. The present invention is especially useful in the production of halogen-based biocides from flowback or produced waters resulting from oil and gas production, but can be applied to any halide ion containing water stream, including reject water from reverse osmosis filtration processes or ocean water, that contains ammonia.

Electrolytic production of halogen based disinfectant solutions from halide containing waters and uses thereof

Methods and apparatuses for the direct electrochemical generation of high concentration, stable aqueous solutions comprised of mixtures of free halogen species, N-halosulfamate compounds, N-halosulfonamide, and other compounds for biocidal applications is disclosed. Solutions containing the desired content of these species, with the desired concentration and pH value, is achieved through the electrolysis of aqueous brines containing mixtures of metal halide compounds, sulfamic acid, and other additives as desired. Controlling the relative compositions of the brines used to prepare the desired biocidal solutions, as well as the electrolysis conditions, can produce the biocidal solution with the desired composition and properties.

Methods for the direct electrolytic production of stable, high concentration aqueous halosulfamate or halosulfonamide solutions

Method and apparatus for destroying organic contaminants in a fluid. At least one oxidant is added to a contaminated fluid, which is then irradiated with ultraviolet radiation. The oxidant is preferably chlorine-based and generated on-site. The intensity of the radiation is higher than typical AOP processes. Various process parameters, such as the pH and/or flow rate of the contaminated fluid, and/or the relative intensities of various UV wavelength sources, are varied in response to measuring quality indicators.
