The disclosure herein provides systems, methods, and devices for generating recommendations of dynamic or unique items. A system for generating recommendations of unique items comprises a data collection engine, a scoring engine, a user penalty calculator, and a recommendation compilation engine, wherein the recommendation engine is configured to transmit to a user access point system a list of recommended alternative unique items predicted to be preferred by a user of the user access point system.

Apparatus and methods for providing dynamic displays. In one embodiment, a method is provided wherein health parameters having goals associated therewith are displayed; data relating to the health parameters is received and the display is incremented according to a progress of the user toward the goal. When collection of the data is completed, it is determined whether a current value of a first one of the health parameters within a predetermined range of the goal associated therewith. When the current value of the first one of the health parameters is within the range, a portion of the display relating thereto is upgraded. When the current value of all of the health parameters is within the range, the entire display is upgraded. The display upgrades may comprise display of an animation and/or using color, light, and/or flashing to simulate a shining or shimmering of the display.

Methods and apparatus for dynamic displays

In one exemplary embodiment, a unified user interface is provided which is configured to display to a user status information and frequency of use information regarding a plurality of health monitoring devices associated to the user. An apparatus for deterring theft of an electronic device, includes a lock having a housing and a retention member movably mounted in the housing for being moved between a locked position and an unlocked position. An elongated retaining member has a first end connected to the lock, and a second end connected to an anchoring member. A plurality of contacts are attached to the lock. A first one of the contacts is electrically isolated from a second one of the contacts. A continuity detection element is attached to the retaining member for detecting a discontinuity between the first and the second ends of the retaining member. The continuity detection element is electrically connected to the first and the second contacts.

Apparatus and method for deterring the theft of a computer

A variable area heat sink has a first heat sink area and a second heat sink area. A bridge is connected to the first heat sink area and includes a bi-metallic portion operable to connect and disconnect with the second heat sink area in response to a temperature change in the bridge which is sufficient to distort the bi-metallic portion from a first shape to a second shape. The first heat sink area may be installed in a computer chassis adjacent a first heat producing component. The second heat sink area may be installed in the chassis adjacent a second heat producing component. The combination of heat sink areas may be enlarged or reduced in size due to the coupling or uncoupling.

An extended cooling unit (&ldquo;ECU&rdquo;) for a portable PC is described. The ECU is connected to the portable PC having an MPP processor via a docking connector of the PC, thereby allowing the presence of the ECU to be detected by the processor. The ECU is connected to the portable PC via a docking connector of the PC, thereby allowing the presence of the ECU to be detected by the MPP processor of the PC. The ECU includes a horizontally projecting, thermally-conductive plate positioned such that, when the ECU is connected to the PC, the plate projects under the bottom of the PC to allow extension of a passive cooling solution. The ECU also includes a fan attached to a heat exchanger. Connection of the ECU to the PC results in a portion of the thermally conductive path of the ECU being brought into direct contact with the conductive path of the processor of the PC, thereby increasing the cooling capacity in the critical portion of the PC.

The adjustable clutch hinge assembly includes a shaft, an adjustment member connected to one end of the shaft, a metal inner cone member, and a metal outer cone member. The end of the shaft to which the adjustment member is connected is inserted into an aperture in the inner cone member, which is split, to allow a decrease of the internal diameter thereof, and has protruding key features, such that a threaded portion of the adjustment member protrudes out the opposite end of the inner cone member. The inner cone member resides within the outer cone member, which has receptive features for the inner cone member and its protruding key features to prevent rotation of the inner cone member within the outer cone member. When the threaded portion of the adjustment member protruding out the end of the inner cone member is drawn through the outer cone member, an outer surface of the inner cone member is forced against an inner surface of the outer cone. This forces the inner diameter of the inner cone member to decrease, increasing the force on the shaft. The shallow pitch of the inner cone member allows relatively large displacements to produce small increases in force, making the torque applied to the shaft controllable.

A portable computer system includes a chassis and a circuit board mounted in an elevated position on mounts provided within the chassis. A space is defined between the board and the chassis and a hard disc drive is mounted on the board. A shock absorbing member extends in the space between the board and the chassis and is spaced from the mounts for limiting flexure of the board toward the chassis in response to impact from forces acting on the computer.

An LCD adapter mounting for a computer cover includes a cover base and an adapter mounted in the base. An LCD panel is mounted in the adapter. The adapter is mounted in the cover base in a first orientation when the LCD panel is of a first size. The adapter is mounted in the cover base in a second orientation, inverted from the first orientation, when the LCD panel is of a second size. A bezel is mounted on the cover base for securing the adapter and LCD panel therebetween.

A computer in which a hard drive-carrier assembly is mounted in the computer enclosure and includes a housing defining a space, and a hard drive mounted in the space. The dimensions of the space are slightly less that the corresponding exterior dimensions of the hard drive to provide an interference fit between the hard drive and the housing. The housing is mounted in a cage formed by a plurality of articulated arms and a flexible connector is provided that connects the hard drive to the computer's motherboard.
