The present invention is directed to partially fluorinated copolymers and the production thereof. More specifically, the copolymers, which are preferably produced by a solution polymerization process, preferably have at least three units, the first unit selected from 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene, the second unit having a polymerized monomer selected from the vinyl esters and vinyl ethers, and the third unit having a polymerized monomer derived from a hydroxyl group-containing vinyl ether. The resulting copolymer is environmentally friendly, has favorable molecular weight characteristics, and may be shipped economically in high concentration.

Synthesis and use of trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene/vinylidene fluoride copolymers

Disclosed are aqueous emulsion copolymerization processes for synthesizing 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene/vinylidene fluoride copolymers having 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene as the major monomer unit. The copolymerization process is performed at temperatures of from about 55&#xb0; C. to about 70&#xb0; C. with at least one water soluble radical initiator, with preferred initiators including NaSO, KSO, (NH)SO, Fe(SO), KSO/FeSO, (NH)SO/FeO, and the like, as well as combinations thereof.

Synthesis of 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene/vinylidene fluoride copolymers

Fumigant compositions including hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) and methods of preparing such compositions are provided. The fumigant compositions may be suitable for use as soil fumigant compositions and structural fumigant compositions against a variety of undesirable species such as weeds, nematodes, pathogens, animals and insects. The fumigant compositions also have low toxicity and low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

In accordance with the present invention, aqueous emulsion polymerization processes of synthesizing 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene/vinylidene fluoride copolymers having 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene as the major monomer unit are provided.

Fumigation methods

The present invention is related to making hydrofluorocarbons (HCFCs), more specifically, 3,3,3-trifluoropropyne (TFP), from trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-1233zd) by contacting the trans-1233zd with a base. Preferably, the base is potassium hydroxide or potassium tert-butoxide, which may or may not be dissolved in as solvent.

To address the problem of insufficient biodegradability of perfluorinated surfactants, the present invention provides biodegradable fluorosurfactants derived from olefins having &#x2014;CHR, &#x2014;CHRf, &#x2014;CHF, and/or &#x2014;CHgroups, where R is an alkyl group and Rf is a perfluoro or fluroroalkyl group. Preferably, the &#x2014;CHR, &#x2014;CHRf, &#x2014;CHF, and/or &#x2014;CHgroups are contained within partially fluorinated alkenes.
