Provided are a method and system for using a non-linear feedback shift register (NLFSR) for generating a pseudo-random sequence. The method may include generating, for an n-stage NLFSR that requires more than two taps to generate a maximal length pseudo-random sequence, a pseudo-random sequence using a feedback logical operation of only a first logic gate and a second logic gate. Two non-end taps suitable for providing an at least near-maximal length pseudo-random sequence are inputs for the first logic gate, an output of the first logic gate and an end tap are inputs for the second logic gate, and an output of the second logic gate is used as feedback to a first stage of the n-stage NLFSR.

Non-linear feedback shift register

Provided are a method and system for using a non-linear feedback shift register (NLFSR) for generating a pseudo-random sequence with at least near-maximal length for n number of stages, where a maximal length is 2&#x2212;1. The method may include selecting n, where n requires more than two taps in maximal length linear feedback shift registers; and generating, for the selected n-stage register, a pseudo-random sequence using a feedback logical operation of only a first logic gate and a second logic gate. Two suitable non-end taps are inputs for the first logic gate, an output of the first logic gate and an end tap are inputs for the second logic gate, and an output of the second logic gate is used as feedback to a first stage of the n-stage register.

A technique for providing alternative text for use in association with an image in a web page includes processing code for a web page to display the web page. An application program identifies from the code a URI specifying an image data file for an image to be displayed in the web page. The application program determines whether the URI of the image data file includes a fragment identifier and, in response to determining that the image data file includes a fragment identifier, determines whether text follows the fragment identifier. In response to determining that text follows the fragment identifier, the text is used to identify alternative text for the image and the web page is rendered with the alternative text in place of the image.

Provision of alternative text for use in association with image data

A method and system for using a linear feedback shift register (LFSR) with near-maximal length sequences for generating a pseudo-random sequence for n number of stages, where a maximal length is 2-1. The method includes selecting n, where n requires more than two taps in maximal length linear feedback shift registers; and for the selected n-stage register, using a feedback logical operation of only two XOR gates. The logical operation includes a first logical XOR performed on outputs of two taps, a second logical XOR performed on the output of the first logical XOR and an output of a third tap. The output of the second logical XOR is used as feedback to a first stage of the n-stage register, where one of the taps is an end tap, the other two taps are suitable non-end taps, and the feedback logical operation includes an odd number of gate inversions.

Linear feedback shift register with near-maximal length sequences

A method for providing alternative text for use in association with an image in a web page includes processing, by a web browser application program, code for a web page to display the web page. The web browser application program identifies from the code a URI specifying an image data file for an image to be displayed in the web page. The web browser application program determines whether the URI of the image data file includes a fragment identifier and, in response to determining that the image data file includes a fragment identifier, determines whether text follows the fragment identifier. In response to determining that text follows the fragment identifier, the text is used to identify alternative text for the image and the web page is rendered with the alternative text in place of the image.

For communication pattern recognition, an apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a baseline analysis module that samples predefined sources associated with a user and generates a baseline fingerprint for the user. The apparatus includes an active analysis module that re-samples the predefined sources associated with the user after a predefined time interval and generates an active fingerprint for the user. The apparatus includes a verification module that compares the active fingerprint to the baseline fingerprint and determines whether the active fingerprint closely matches the baseline fingerprint. If the active fingerprint closely matches the baseline fingerprint, then the verification module replaces the baseline fingerprint with the active fingerprint. If the active fingerprint does not match the baseline fingerprint, then the verification module performs a predefined action to rectify differences between the baseline fingerprint and the active fingerprint.

Communication pattern recognition

Control of message delivery from publisher devices to a subscriber application of a messaging system is provided. The subscriber application has a subscription registered with a broker application of the messaging system and is only permitted to receive messages relating to a topic of the subscription from a predetermined set of one or more publisher devices. The method includes: altering a topic identifier of a message from a publisher device to a modified topic identifier, and altering a subscription identifier from a subscriber application to a modified subscription identifier; analyzing the modified topic identifier and the modified subscription identifier to determine if the message is to be communicated to the subscriber application, and if so, information is removed from the modified topic identifier to form a reverted topic identifier, and the message and reverted topic identifier are communicated to the subscriber application.

Message delivery in a message system

A message server includes a query store for storing query requests, value data for the query requests, and response time data for the query requests. A message is received, a query request is determined from the message and sent to a query server. A timeout period is determined from response time data stored in the query store. If no response to the query request is received within the timeout period, a value is determined from the value data for the query request stored in the query store. Alternatively, if a response to the query request is received within the timeout period, a value is determined from the response, value data for the value is stored in the query store, and response time data is stored in the query store. An action in response to the message is determined and the action is performed.

Processing a message received by a message server

Method and system are provided for communication monitoring based on sentiment. The method includes: monitoring a new communication prior to sending created by a sender to a recipient, wherein the new communication includes text input by the sender; and analyzing the text of the new communication using sentiment analysis and determining a sentiment score on a scale between negative sentiment and positive sentiment. In response to the sentiment score for the text of the new communication being on the negative side of a predefined threshold on the scale, referencing an overall relationship score based on past communications between the sender and the recipient. In response to the overall relationship score being on the negative side of a predefined threshold, holding a transmission of the new communication for further review.

Communication monitoring based on sentiment

A method, system and computer program product are provided for providing alternative text for use in association with image data specified by a uniform resource identifier (URI). The method includes identifying a URI specifying image data, processing the URI to identify data representing alternative text encoded within the URI, and extracting any identified alternative text data for use in association with the image data.

A tool for manipulating data entries that cannot be visualized in a user interface. A user interface displays a plurality of data entries that fit in the user interface, where the plurality of data entries are from a larger group of data entries. The tool generates and displays a marker (text line or icon) representative of at least a subset of the remainder of data entries from the larger group. A user directing an operation request to the marker causes the operation to be performed on the data entries represented by the marker.

Mechanisms for memory management in a scoped memory system are provided. The scoped memory system includes a scoped memory area for the allocation of objects therein for access by one or more software threads in execution. The scoped memory area has an associated thread count for indicating that the scoped memory area is discardable. The mechanisms identify a set of root references for objects allocated in the scoped memory area and recursively traverses and marks objects that are referenced from the set of root references and that are allocated in the scoped memory area. The mechanisms further identify objects in the scoped memory area that are not so marked and discards the identified objects.

Memory management using garbage collection of scoped memory

Mechanisms of memory management in a real time runtime environment having a garbage collected memory heap are provided. The runtime environment includes a critical real time thread that is precluded from accessing the garbage collected memory heap. The runtime environment further includes a scoped memory area for the allocation of objects therein for access by the critical real time thread. The mechanisms determine whether the critical real time thread is in a defined state in which a delay associated with garbage collection can be accommodated by the critical thread. The mechanisms further initiate, in response to a determination that the critical real time thread is in the defined state, a process of garbage collection of the scoped memory area.
