A heat exchanging pack comprises a substance receiving portion, a first strap receiving portion disposed adjacent a first side of the substance receiving portion, a second strap receiving portion disposed adjacent a second side of the substance receiving portion, and a strap configured for releasably coupling the heat exchanging pack to a portion of a body. The strap includes a first portion extending through the first strap receiving portion, a second portion extending between the first strap receiving portion and the second strap receiving portion, a third portion extending through the second strap receiving portion, and a fourth portion extending out from the first strap receiving portion. The second portion and the fourth portion of the strap are configured to extend at least partially around a portion of a user in need of treatment to releasably couple the heat exchanging pack to the portion of the user.

An absorbent composite includes a porous base layer, a core layer, and a superabsorbent laminate layer. The core layer has a fluff pulp layer and superabsorbent polymer particles. The core layer is disposed on the base layer. The superabsorbent laminate layer is disposed on the core layer. The base layer, the core layer, and the superabsorbent laminate layer are compressed together and embossed under heat and pressure to form a plurality of embossed depressions. The embossed depressions are arranged across a major surface area of the superabsorbent laminate layer. The embossed depressions extend through the composite from the superabsorbent laminate layer and into the core layer and the base layer. A thin, soft, and pliable absorbent composite suitable for a variety of applications including wound care is thereby provided.

An animal incontinence device comprises a base layer of a liquid-impervious polymer film, an intermediate absorbent layer comprising superabsorbent polymer particles intermediate a plurality of layers of tissue, and a top layer comprising a porous, hydrophilic, woven or non-woven polymer fiber mat.

A disposable, absorbent 'moisture management' drain pad for use on IV sites, tracheotomy tube sites, chest tube sites, catheter sites, g-tube sites, and drain sites. The pads will protect drain sites/skin area around drain sites from exudates/drainage by absorbing large amounts of fluid and locking it into a super absorbent core that remains dry on the outer surface next to the skin/drain site. The drain pad will contain an ultra-thin core containing super absorbent polymer and two layers of tissue substrates, a water impervious hydrophobic non-woven back sheet and a water pervious (hydrophilic) non-woven top sheet. Various materials can be substituted for these listed as long as they perform the required criteria need for the material.

A process for preparing an animal incontinence device comprises: providing a base layer of tissue; applying a uniform layer of superabsorbent polymer particles to a major surface of the base layer of tissue; applying water to the base layer of tissue having the uniform layer of superabsorbent polymer particles thereon; applying a cover layer of tissue over the base layer of tissue having the uniform layer of superabsorbent polymer particles thereon, to form an absorbent layer assembly; passing the absorbent layer assembly between a heated nip roll and a laminating roll, to at least partially adhere together the cover layer of tissue, uniform layer of superabsorbent polymer particles, and base layer of tissue, to form an absorbent layer; inserting the absorbent layer intermediate a base layer of liquid-impervious polymer film and a top layer of porous, hydrophilic, woven or non-woven polymer fibers, to form an animal incontinence device assembly; and laminating together at least a portion of the animal incontinence device assembly.

Process for preparing an animal incontinence device

Several embodiments of an improved absorbent insert or core are disclosed. According to one embodiment, the insert comprises a fluff layer physically integrated to at least one layer of laminate consisting of at least one tissue layer and polymer powder secured to it and supported on it. The fluff layer and the laminate are embossed between rollers that physically integrate the two layers and produce transfer sites through which liquid is rapidly transferred into the fluff layer, away from a wearer. In another embodiment, an absorbent insert is produced by embossing a laminate between a smooth roller and a patterned roller and trimming and folding the embossed laminate to produce an insert with a central region with an exposed pattern of embossed depressions and, on each side of the central region, lateral regions with an exposed, smooth surface. According to another embodiment, an absorbent insert is produced by depositing super absorbent polymer powder on a portion of a layer of fluff, covering the powder with at least one tissue layer, and embossing the assembly to produce an integrated absorbent insert. According to another embodiment, an absorbent insert is produced by depositing super absorbent polymer powder on a portion of a layer of fluff, covering at least a portion of the fluff with polymer deposited thereon with at least one laminate layer, and embossing the assembly to produce an integrated absorbent insert.

Absorbent product for personal use

A capacity monitor for diapers and the like, including super absorbent material disposed in or adjacent to an absorbent core is disclosed. The monitor comprises an indicator and a baffle to prevent direct contact between the absorbent core and the indicator. The indicator is preferably a ribbon of hot melt adhesive with a wetness indicator which changes color when exposed to liquid. The baffle is a substantially water impervious sheet positioned between the absorbent core and the indicator so as to prevent direct contact between them. The diaper and the monitor are constructed so that there is a threshold level of liquid which, when deposited in the diaper, will effect a color change in the indicator. A quantity of liquid which is below the threshold will not effect a color change in the indicator and a quantity of liquid which is above the threshold will effect a color change in the indicator. In the latter case, the indicator will change color over a portion of its length which is proportional to the quantity of deposited liquid which exceeds the threshold amount. The threshold is preferably at least twenty percent of the in-situ capacity of the super absorbent material in the diaper. In a diaper comprising an absorbent core, a backing sheet and a cover sheet, the monitor is positioned between the absorbent core and the backing sheet and, preferably, a strip of non-woven material is positioned between the monitor and the backing sheet to prevent sticking.
