Adapting characteristics of a video stream. A source video stream is received comprising instructions to employ at least one reference frame at a video adaptation device, wherein the source video stream is encoded. The source video stream is adapted, at the video adaptation device, such that the instructions are adapted to store a different number of reference frames. A video stream is produced with the different number of the reference frames.

Adapting a video stream

Image display systems and methods are provided. A plurality of pixel groups, each including a plurality of independent pixels, forms a display. A plurality of lenses () forming an optical array and aligned along at least one axis (), can be disposed proximate the display. Each of the plurality of lenses can provide a limited viewing arc () for each of the plurality of independent pixels. A sample system can also include a detector () to detect the presence and location of a first user () and a second user () and logic (), that when executed by a processor () coupled to the display, routes a first display signal () based upon the viewing arc of a first portion of pixels; and routes a second display signal () based upon the viewing arc of a second portion of pixels.

According to one embodiment, video data from a video transmitter () is received () at a network buffer (). Information that pertains to a network buffer drain rate () of the network buffer (q) is monitored (). The network buffer drain rate () is a rate that the video data is removed from the network buffer (). The network buffer drain rate () is estimated () based on the monitored information. A transmission rate () that the video transmitter () transmits future video data is adjusted () to not exceed an allowed transmission rate (ATR) that is calculated based on the estimation of the network buffer drain rate ().

Reducing communication delay of video data

Compressed frames of a video with associated reduced information about an object are received. The video has unreduced information about an object moving with respect to boundaries that are fixed with in each frame of the video and the compressed frames have reduced information about the object moving with respect to the boundaries that are fixed with in each of the compressed frames. The reduced information has quantization error due to compression. An estimate of the unreduced information is created by transforming the reduced information into the estimate using computer implemented motion estimation. The estimate has less quantization error than the reduced information.

Generating a deblocked version of video frames using motion estimation

A motion-based, multi-stage segmentation of a video frame is provided. A first segmentation stage identifies motion boundaries in a plurality of sub-blocks of the video frame. The motion boundaries are identified by computing an occlusion-insensitive localized motion cost and minimizing a MAP-MRF energy based on the localized motion cost. A second segmentation stage refines the motion boundaries by adding a color cost to the localized motion cost in the MAP-MRF energy.

Motion-based, multi-stage video segmentation with motion boundary refinement

A computer-implemented method for managing upstream bandwidth of a network including changing QoS settings, by a router, of a video device of a plurality of video devices in the network to a higher priority than other of the plurality of video devices. The plurality of video devices concurrently transmit video data. The computer-implemented method further includes estimating an overall upstream bandwidth by the higher priority video device and determining operating rates, by the router, for the plurality of video devices, such that said modem buffer is not backlogged.

A computer-implemented method for encoding using feedback. A base layer of a current frame is encoded. The residue of the current frame is generated. The residue of the current frame is encoded. Also, in response to feedback from a receiver, a coding strategy for each block of the current frame is determined and coding is performed according to one or more of source coding and Wyner-Ziv coding. The feedback is based on the base layer of the current frame and previous correctly received enhancement frames.

Wireless media streaming

A system and method for estimating motion between images performs correlation of candidate image blocks of a target digital image with potential image blocks of a reference digital image, in which pixel values of the images have been quantized, to estimate displacements of the candidate image blocks between the reference and target digital images. The correlation process may include a technique for counting the number of particular type bits in binary words. The counting technique involves performing bit-wise AND operations using a pair of masking binary words to derive first and second resulting binary words, shifting the second resulting binary word by a predefined number of bits and summing the first resulting binary word and the shifted binary word.

System and method for estimating motion between images

Distortion correction in an imaging system using parametric motion estimation. Parametric motion estimation is used to correct for geometric lens distortion and illumination changes. Models for geometric lens distortion and different illumination models are presented, as is a method for an iterative linearising method of solving the resulting sets of nonlinear equations.

Correcting distortion in an imaging system using parametric motion estimation

A method for generating a high-resolution image from a plurality of low-resolution images generated from quantized coefficients in the spatial frequency domain and the uncertainties in the quantized coefficients. The method generates a set of linear inequalities relating the quantized coefficients, the uncertainties therein, and the pixel values for the high-resolution image. Each linear inequality relates one of the quantized coefficients to a linear sum of the high-resolution pixel values. A high-resolution image whose pixels satisfy this set of inequalities is then generated

Method for generated resolution enhanced still images from compressed video data

A method and system for capturing analog video data and previewing still video images of the captured analog video data without converting the analog video data into digital image data. The system takes analog video data and converts the data into raw digitized video data. The raw digitized video data is stored in a memory until the data is selected for previewing. Once selected, the raw digitized video data is reconverted into analog video data that presents a still image of the desired data. The system is also able to discard unnecessary portions of the raw digitized video data and store only necessary portions of the raw digitized video data. Preferably, the video capture, preview, and storage technique is used in video printing. When used in video printing, the raw digitized video data is converted into digital image data using a software decoding process.

Analog video frame capture and preview

A red-eye reduction system is described that includes a masking module. The masking module converts an image into a mask having first state areas representing red color pixels of the image and second state areas representing other color pixels of the image. The image includes an eye with a red pupil. A pupil locating module is coupled to the masking module to locate a substantially first state area in the mask that resembles a pupil. A color replacing module is then coupled to the pupil locating module to change the red color pixels in the area into monochrome (grey) or other predefined colors. The color replacing module also adjusts the boundary of the area by changing the colors of pixels in close proximity to the area if the color of these pixels is determined to be sufficiently close to red such that natural appearance of the eye is maintained when reducing the red pupil. A method of reducing red-eye effect in a digital image is also described.
