A method and article of manufacture for providing a mechanical bond and an improved water vapor seal between a lens () and a base () in an instrument housing (), includes heating the components and a hot butyl rubber sealant () prior to assembly, maintaining a level of heating for the assembly during assembly, dispensing the heated sealant () into a channel () to form a ring-shaped body of sealant (), assembling the lens () to the base () and pressing a lower edge () of the lens () into the ring of sealant () and bending an upper edge () of the side wall () over a portion () of the lens (). The method is applied in a second embodiment to an instrument having at least two signal conductors () entering the base () at two entry points. Apparatuses manufactured with the method are also disclosed.

A fluid flow device includes an actuator, an RF transmitter, a gated RF receiver, and a processor. The RF transmitter is configured and arranged to produce a plurality of pulses of RF energy spaced apart in time to form a sensor field. The gated RF receiver is configured and arranged to receive RF energy reflected by objects within the sensor field. The processor is coupled to the gated RF receiver for evaluating the reflected RF energy. The processor is also coupled to the actuator and is configured and arranged to activate the actuator in response to the reflected RF energy to control fluid flow. In addition, a new low power radar sensor operates by providing radar pulses that are non-uniformly spaced in time. In operation, a burst of pulses is initiated in the transmitter. Between each burst is a period of rest time in which the transmitter is not transmitting RF energy.

Faucets are disclosed which provide a gentle, gravity driven cascading flow of water. A mixing valve is positioned in a faucet body which permits exiting water to flow outside the mixing valve inside the faucet housing. The valve unit is thus partially submerged by the water that has passed through it. The pool of water helps to create a more gentle uniform flow of water. A flow regulator can be positioned in the fluid outlet of the valve.

The present invention is a system for controlling a plumbing fixture. The system includes at least two sensors, each sensor including a receiver, and a controller coupled to receive detection signals from the sensors and to generate a control signal in response to the received signals. An actuator is coupled to receive the control signal from the controller and couplable to the plumbing device to act on the bathroom device. The invention is also a method of controlling plumbing fixtures that includes receiving detection signals from a plurality of sensors in a central controller, selecting, in the central controller, which of a plurality of actuators attachable to the plumbing fixtures to operate and directing control signals to the selected actuator to operate the selected actuator.

Advanced touchless plumbing systems

Methods and devices for controlling the flow of fluid in fixtures, such as bathroom, restroom, or kitchen fixtures, using a radar detector with a leaky transmission line and fixtures using such methods and devices are provided. A bathroom fixture, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, includes a fluid conduit, a radar detector for detecting one or more characteristics of one or more objects in a sensor field based on reflected electromagnetic signals from the one or more objects in the sensor field, and a controller coupled to the fluid conduit for controlling a flow of fluid in the fluid conduit in response to the detected one or more characteristics. The radar detector in particular includes a leaky transmission line for transmitting electromagnetic signals to form the sensor field and receiving the reflected electromagnetic signals. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the sensor field is restricted from selected areas associated with spurious signals, such as areas of flowing water, areas near other fixtures, etc. The use of a radar detector with a leaky transmission line can, for example, improve the control of fluid flow in fixtures, such as bathroom fixtures.

A pilot valve is operated by a solenoid formed by a coil wound around a non-magnetic spool that has a bore. A rare earth permanent magnet is inside the bore adjacent one end and abuts a flux concentrator farther inside the bore. A plunger is slidably located within the bore biased away from the flux concentrator by a spring and projects out another end of the bore. An enclosure of magnetic material completes a magnetic flux path around the solenoid and has an aperture though which the plunger projects. The pilot valve includes a cage of rigid non-magnetic material which abuts the enclosure and has a recess which supports the plunger out of contact with the housing. The plunger selectively opens and closes a pilot tube through the cage to operate a diaphragm the responds by engaging a primary valve seat to control the flow of fluid through a valve body.

A sealed wire entry port for a housing (10) having a base (12) and a top (11), and a body of sealing material (16) joining the top (11) to the base (12) and a pair of insulated wires (21) in which the insulation (31) is removed where the wires (21) run through the body of sealing material (16), a plug (22) disposed in an opening in the base (12), wherein the two wires (21) run through the plug (22) into the sealing material (16) and a vent (23) that runs through the plug (22) into the housing (10), wherein the vent (23) is adapted to be closed after a gas has been either evacuated or introduced into the interior of the housing (10) to reduce moisture within the housing before final sealing. A method of assembling and sealing the unit (10) is also disclosed.

A number wheel assembly for a counter mechanism has a plurality of hubs with an eccentrically shaped aperture for slideable assembly and orientation on a shaft and eccentric lobe. Each hub having a recess and a pinion spindle in the recess for receiving an internal pinion gear having narrow teeth alternated with wider teeth that extend outside the hub. The number wheels, which represent successive orders of magnitude, are slipped over the hubs. Each number wheel has a single tooth that engages one of the wider teeth of the pinion gear driving the next higher order number wheel once for each revolution of the number wheel. This moves the pinion which, in turn, moves the next higher order number wheel. The gear ratio is 1:10 for a decimal counter. The lowest order number wheel is a drive wheel which includes means operable by a drive mechanism for advancement in increments of 1/10 revolution for each cycle of operation of the drive mechanism.
