Process of imparting wettability to a polyolefin fiber

Disclosed are electret materials with outstanding thermal and charge stability. The electret materials comprise a melt blend of a thermoplastic polymer and one or more compounds selected from the aromatic trisamides. The aromatic trisamides are for example of the formula The melt blends are subjected to an electret treatment, for example a corona treatment. The electret materials are for example nonwoven polyolefin webs and are employed as filter materials, wipes, absorbent materials, filter masks, acoustic materials, printing substrates, measuring devices or contactless switches. The present electret materials may also comprise a further additive selected from the hindered amine light stabilizers and the hydroxyphenylalkylphosphonic esters or monoesters.

Wettable polyolefin fibers and fabrics

Disclosed are electret materials with outstanding thermal and charge stability. The electret materials comprise a melt blend of a thermoplastic polymer and one or more hindered hydroxylamine ester compounds that comprise at least one moiety of the formula I 

The present invention is aimed at a method of providing wettability to polyester fibers or filaments, to woven or nonwoven fabrics made therefrom and to resultant articles of manufacture. The method comprises melt extruding a mixture comprising a polyester and one or more alkyl metal sulfonates where the metal is Na, Li or K and the alkyl is straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 24 carbon atoms, or is straight or branched chain alkenyl of 2 to 24 carbon atoms. The alkyl metal sulfonates are present from about 0.1% to about 1.9% by weight based on the weight of the polyester. A post treatment step such as an alkaline treatment step is not included. The melt extrusion mixtures do not include certain additives such as polyoxyalkylene compounds, alkylmonoethonolamide compounds, alkyldiethanolamine compounds and polyetheramide compounds.

A process for dyeing or printing an article comprising a hydrophobic polymer, wherein the hydrophobic polymer is brought into contact with a condensation polymer obtained by condensation of at least one poly-hydroxyl-mono-carboxylic acid, prior to or simultaneously with the treatment of the article with a color imparting compound, with the proviso that the condensation polymer is not terminated with lipophilic groups. The process provides dyed articles with good fastness properties.
