A method for IP [=Internet Protocol] communication between a mobile terminal and its correspondent node in a mobile radio network. The method comprises establishing an IP connection between the mobile terminal and its correspondent node. After detecting a period of inactivity in the IP connection, keep-alive messages are sent via the IP connection at predetermined intervals, which are varied. The method comprises monitoring the lengths of several periods of inactivity at which the mobile radio network disconnects the IP connection.

Dynamic adjustment of keep-alive messages for efficient battery usage in a mobile network

An apparatus adapted to operate as an A party in a database synchronization with a B party via a mobile communication network. The database contains data items to be synchronized. The apparatus includes mechanisms for maintaining a copy of the database and a client-server communication module with a client part and a server part. The client part is configured to communicate via the mobile communication network with the server part of the B party. The apparatus also includes change detection mechanisms responsive to a detection of a changed data item, for initiating a synchronization event via the client part of the client-server communication module.

Database synchronization via a mobile network

Disclosed are a system, apparatus, and method for calibrating an optical see-through display (OSD). The OSD virtual display size is estimated as a starting point for determining an eye to camera distance. In response to determining the eye to camera distance and comparing the result with a measured eye to camera distance an updated display size may be determined. A user's head movement may be tracked in order to determine when a visual alignment based calibration routine is complete. When a user is not viewing a calibration target a request is sent to prompt the user to realign the OSD. When a user is still after a period of alignment with the OSD, the alignment and calibration procedure may be assumed as complete. A buffer may receive calibration values from before and after the calibration procedure is complete and the values may be averaged or filtered for accuracy.

Optical see-through display calibration

Systems and methods for maintaining an IP (Internet protocol) connection in a mobile network are disclosed. Techniques are disclosed wherein an optimal keep-alive interval is determined, and dynamic adjustments of keep-alive message interval are employed to prevent detection and counter measure. Keep-Alive schedule information may be determined at a first mobile terminal for a network, and subsequently used for a second mobile terminal when the second mobile terminal encounters that same network. In some embodiments, the Keep-Alive schedule information is stored at a network-node device. In some embodiments, the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are cellular phones.

Systems and methods are disclosed for target-based AR devices to perform low-power front-end passive scanning of targets to alert users to AR content linked to any image targets the users may be viewing. Passive scanning by AR devices relieves users of the need to manually activate a camera for AR image target identification, and helps to identify image targets the users may be unknowingly viewing. To conserver power, AR devices may autonomously activate a camera to perform an exploratory scan when the AR devices detect from users' movement patterns that users may be interested in certain targets or is in a state of attentiveness. AR devices may identify one or more image targets from the exploratory scans. If users elect to interact with the AR content, AR devices may activate the camera to perform a full capture or real-time tracking of the image targets to augment the AR content.

Methods and apparatus for augmented reality target detection

A head mounted device provides an immersive virtual or augmented reality experience for viewing data and enabling collaboration among multiple users. Rendering images in a virtual or augmented reality system may include capturing an image and spatial data with a body mounted camera and sensor array, receiving an input indicating a first anchor surface, calculating parameters with respect to the body mounted camera and displaying a virtual object such that the virtual object appears anchored to the selected first anchor surface. Further operations may include receiving a second input indicating a second anchor surface within the captured image that is different from the first anchor surface, calculating parameters with respect to the second anchor surface and displaying the virtual object such that the virtual object appears anchored to the selected second anchor surface and moved from the first anchor surface.

Anchoring virtual images to real world surfaces in augmented reality systems

Methods and systems according to one or more embodiments are provided for combining touch inputs and offset non-touch gestures. In an embodiment, a method includes concurrently capturing touch input data on a screen of a user device and non-touch gesture input data, the non-touch gesture input data being indicative of a gesture performed in an area offset from the screen of the user device to inhibit obstruction of a user's view of the screen. The method also includes determining an input command based at least in part on a combination of the concurrently captured touch input data and the non-touch gesture input data. In addition, the method further includes affecting an operation of the user device based on the determined input command.
