The present invention concerns antimicrobial multi-layer wound dressings having an antimicrobial agent located at one or more interfaces between opposing surfaces of the layers of the wound dressing. This improves the migration of antimicrobial agent and allows the dressing to provide a higher overall concentration of antimicrobial agent throughout the dressing. This will assist clinicians when treating wounds by reducing the microbial load at the wound bed thereby reducing the risk of wound infection.

Antimicrobial wound dressing

The present invention relates to a wound dressing composition for use as or in a wound dressing and to methods of making the wound dressing composition. The wound dressing composition comprises an absorbent material, an adhesive material and an anchor material attached to the absorbent material and the adhesive material. The anchor material is operable to maintain a link between the absorbent material and the adhesive material when the wound dressing composition is wet.

Wound dressing

The present invention relates to wound dressings. In particular, the invention relates to antimicrobial wound dressings, methods of making the same and uses of the same. The wound dressing of the present invention comprises a wound contact layer and an absorption layer, wherein the wound contact layer comprises at least one antimicrobial agent and wherein the lateral wicking rate of the wound contact layer is the same or higher than the lateral wicking rate of the absorption layer. The wound dressing of the present invention provides an absorbent, conformable and anti-microbial medical device that may be used in a variety of medical situations, including post and/or pre-operative.

The present invention relates to wound dressings. In particular, the invention relates to antimicrobial wound dressings, methods of making the same and uses of the same. The wound dressing of the present invention comprises a wound contact layer and an absorption layer, wherein the wound contact layer comprises at least one antimicrobial agent and wherein the wound contact layer is compressed and/or wherein the wound contact layer has a density of greater than 0.06 g/cm. The wound dressing of the present invention provides an absorbent, conformable and anti-microbial medical device that may be used in a variety of medical situations, including post and/or pre-operative.

Wound dressings for use in cases of a patient suffering a penetrating chest trauma. The wound dressing includes a base layer having a lower surface facing the wound and an upper surface facing away from the wound, and an aperture therethrough for locating over the wound, and a top layer extending over the aperture and at least a part of the upper surface. The base layer is connected to the top layer such that the wound dressing can transition from an open configuration in which the aperture and an area external to the wound dressing are in fluid communication via at least one opening at a perimeter between the base layer and the top layer, to a closed configuration in which the top layer forms a seal over the aperture.

The present invention relates to a process for producing a low endotoxin alkali chitosan, chitin, chitosan derivative or chitin derivative, and also to a process for producing low endotoxin neutral chitosan, chitosan salt and chitosan derivatives, and to the products of such processes. The process comprises contacting chitosan, chitin, chitosan derivative or chitin derivative with an alkali solution to form a mixture; leaving the mixture for a period of less than 1 hour and optionally drying the mixture. The low endotoxin alkali chitosan may be used in the manufacture of other useful chitosan based products.

Process for producing low endotoxin chitosan

The present invention relates to a wound dressing composition that is capable of gelling upon contact with a fluid derived from a human or animal body, and which is able to maintain the integrity of the gel for a period of time that is longer than about 24 hours.

The present invention relates to a process for producing a low endotoxin alkali chitosan, chitin, chitosan derivative or chitin derivative, and also to a process for producing low endotoxin neutral chitosan, chitosan salt and chitosan derivatives, and to the products of such processes. The process comprises contacting chitosan, chitin, chitosan derivative or chitin derivative with an alkali solution having a concentration of less than 0.25M to form a mixture; leaving the mixture for a period of less than 12 hours and optionally drying the mixture. The low endotoxin alkali chitosan may be used in the manufacture of other useful chitosan based products.

Composition for a wound dressing

In one aspect, the present invention includes a haemostat composition that has been washed with an alkali solution to reduce the presence of endotoxins, and which is able to safely gradually and fully degrade in a human or animal body within about 30 days and so can be utilised by physicians to stem a flow of blood and promote healing both after as well as during surgical procedures.
