A system for isolating electrical current in an aircraft structure includes a first structure a bearing having an outer race and an inner race and a liner disposed therebetween, the outer race having a second structure coupled thereto. A dielectric seal is secured to the outer race and engages the inner race. A conditionally non-conductive gas occupies a sealed chamber that defines a gap between the inner race and the outer race. The gap has a predetermined magnitude sufficient to prevent electrical arcing or current leakage between the inner race and the outer race at a first voltage less than that voltage resulting from a lightning strike; and/or to conduct an electrical current between the inner race and the outer race at a second voltage greater than or equal to the voltage resulting from the lightning strike.

System for isolating electrical current in a bearing for use in an aircraft structure

A sealed spherical bearing includes a ball disposed in a race, an annular seal extending between the race and the ball, and a retainer secured to the seal. A retainer first leg axially outward facing surface is secured to a seal first leg axially inward facing surface, and a retainer second leg radially inward facing surface is secured to a seal first leg radially outward facing surface. The retainer and the seal are separately formed elements. The retainer and the seal secured thereto is press-fit into a first annular groove of the race such that a first groove radially inward facing surface engages a retainer second leg radially outward facing surface, a first groove axially outward facing surface engages a retainer first leg axially inward facing surface, and the retainer is fixed relative to the race.

A bearing having a surface and a self-lubricating surface coating composition deposited on the surface, wherein the self-lubricating surface coating composition includes a curable acrylate composition having a metallic composition. A bearing having a surface and a self-lubricating surface coating composition deposited on the surface, wherein the self-lubricating surface coating composition includes a curable acrylate composition having a metallic composition. The metallic composition having a metallic acrylate compound according to Formula I: 

A bearing has an outer ring, an inner ring and rollers between the rings. The inner ring has axial outward extensions with stepped radially outward surfaces receiving the radially outward extending end washers. Inward extending grooves are formed in the axial surfaces of the steps. Inner axially extending surfaces of the end washers have complementary grooves about twice as deep as the grooves in the inner ring ends. To assemble the washer on the inner ring, a C-shaped external retaining ring is expanded into the washer groove, while the washer is slipped over the axially extending surface of the step on the outer end of the internal ring. The external retaining ring slides along the lateral surface of the step until it reaches the groove and springs inward into the groove. Half of the thickness of the external retaining ring fits in the groove. The outer half of the thickness remains in the groove in the inner wall of the washer, firmly locking the washer on the stepped outer end of the inner ring. A tapered end washer installation plug is inserted in an end of the inner ring so that the maximum dimension of the tapered end is adjacent the end of the axially extending surface in the outer end of the inner ring. The tapered surface extends outward and slopes inward. An external retaining ring is partially placed in the groove of an end washer, and the end washer and retaining ring are placed on the tapered surface of the installation plug.

Bearings, end washers and securing method

Balls are loaded into ball recirculating grooves of linear bearings by snapping balls past resiliently deformable edges of slots in the linear bearings. The edges are lips on ball exposing slots adjacent races in linear bearings.
