An optical sensing module suitable for wearable devices, the optical sensing module comprising: a silicon or silicon nitride transmitter photonic integrated circuit (PIC), the transmitter PIC comprising: a plurality of lasers, each laser of the plurality of lasers operating at a wavelength that is different from the wavelength of the others; an optical manipulation region, the optical manipulation region comprising one or more of: an optical modulator, optical multiplexer (MUX); and additional optical manipulation elements; and one or more optical outputs for light originating from the plurality of lasers.

Optical sensing module

An imaging component for receiving light, the imaging component comprising a photonic integrated circuit, PIC, receiver, a slab, a wedge, and a lens the wedge having a front surface and an opposing back surface, the imaging component arranged to define a receiving optical path through the front surface of the wedge, the receiving optical path continuing through the wedge and through the slab to the PIC receiver, the lens being configured to focus light of the receiving optical path onto the PIC receiver.

Optical components for imaging

A wearable device. In some embodiments, the wearable device includes: a sensing module; and a strap attached to the sensing module, the wearable device being configured to be worn by a user, with a lower surface of the sensing module in contact with the user, the strap extending over an upper surface of the sensing module.

Wearable device

A photonic module, comprising a first waveguide; a second waveguide, disposed on an opposing side of the first waveguide to a substrate; and, a coupling section. One of the first waveguide and the second waveguide is formed of crystalline silicon. The other of the first waveguide and the second waveguide is formed of amorphous silicon. The coupling section is configured to couple light between the first waveguide and the second waveguide. Such a silicon photonic module has enhanced coupling and transmission properties in contrast to conventional modules.

Photonic module and method of manufacture

An optoelectronic device. The device comprising: an input waveguide, which receives an optical signal; a multistage photodiode detector, comprising a plurality of photodiode elements connected in series, one of the photodiode elements of the plurality of photodiode elements being connected to the input waveguide and configured to receive the optical signal therefrom; and a first electrode and a second electrode, wherein the first electrode is connected to a first contact of each of the plurality of photodiode elements, and the second electrode is connected to a second contact of each of the plurality of photodiode elements.

Optoelectronic device

An optoelectronic device. The optoelectronic device including: a silicon platform, including a silicon waveguide and a cavity, wherein a bed of the cavity is provided at least in part by a buried oxide layer; a III-V semiconductor-based optoelectronic component, bonded to a bed of the cavity of the silicon platform; and a bridge-waveguide, located between the silicon waveguide and the III-V semiconductor-based optoelectronic component.

A method for fabricating an integrated structure, using a fabrication system having a CMOS line and a photonics line, includes the steps of: in the photonics line, fabricating a first photonics component in a silicon wafer; transferring the wafer from the photonics line to the CMOS line; and in the CMOS line, fabricating a CMOS component in the silicon wafer. Additionally, a monolithic integrated structure includes a silicon wafer with a waveguide and a CMOS component formed therein, wherein the waveguide structure includes a ridge extending away from the upper surface of the silicon wafer. A monolithic integrated structure is also provided which has a photonics component and a CMOS component formed therein, the photonics component including a waveguide having a width of 0.5 &#x3bc;m to 13 &#x3bc;m.

Integrated structure and manufacturing method thereof

An optoelectronic switch for transferring an optical signal from a source external client device to a destination external client device, includes a leaf rack unit having thereon a leaf switch assembly including: a leaf switch having a plurality of fabric ports including a first fabric port and a second fabric port; and a fabric port multiplexer associated with the leaf switch, arranged to combine a first signal from the first fabric port and a second signal from the second fabric port onto a first connection, in the form of an outgoing first multiplexed signal. The optoelectronic switch further includes a spine rack unit including: a plurality of spine switches including a first spine switch having a fabric port and a second spine switch having a fabric port; and a demultiplexer arranged to separate an incoming multiplexed signal received from a first connection into a first signal and a second signal, the first signal directed towards the fabric port of the first spine switch and the second signal directed towards the fabric port of the second spine switch.

Optoelectronic switch with reduced fibre count

A switch for switching a signal between a source client device and a destination client device, the switch includes: a switch module housing unit including a switch module, configured to output a first signal, and a second signal; a shuffle including: a first input, a first output, and a second output, wherein the first input is configured to receive the first signal and the second signal from the switch module, and to direct the first signal to the first output and the second signal to the second output. A switch including a switch module housing unit, including: a first input, a second input, and a first output, wherein the first input is configured to receive a first signal and direct it to the first output, and the second input is configured to receive a second signal and direct it to the first output.

Switch with a shuffle

A light ranging and detection system achieving reconfigurable very wide field of view, high sampling of spatial points per second with high optical power handling by using architecture to efficiently combine different wavelengths, time and frequency coding, and spatial selectivity. The transmitter is capable of generating multiple narrow beams, encoding different beams and transmitting in different spatial directions. The receiver can differentiate and extract range and reflectivity information of reflected beams. Three dimensional imaging of the environment is achieved by scanning the field of view of the transmitter. Control and signal processing electronic circuitries fabricated in a chip are packaged together with a chip containing the photonic components of the ranging system.

Optical scanner and detector

An optoelectronic switch for switching data from a source external client device to a destination external client device, the optoelectronic switch includes: an array of client-side transceivers, each having an array of client-facing optical ports to connect to an external client device, and an array of leaf-facing electrical ports; an array of leaf switches, each including an array of client-side electrical ports and an array of fabric-side electrical ports; a first electrical interconnecting region providing electrical connections between the leaf-facing electrical ports of the client-side transceivers and the client-side electrical ports of the leaf switches, an array of fabric-side transceivers, each having an array of leaf-facing electrical ports, and an array of fabric-facing optical ports; a second electrical interconnecting region providing electrical connections between the fabric-side electrical ports of the leaf switches and the leaf-facing electrical ports of the fabric-side transceivers; an array of spine switches, each including an array of fabric-facing optical ports; and an optical fabric providing connections between the fabric-facing optical ports of the fabric-side transceivers and the fabric-facing optical ports of the spine switches.

Spectroscopy system with beat component

A reconfigurable spectroscopy system comprises tunable lasers and wavelength lockers to lock to accurate reference wavelengths. Band combiners with differently optimized wavelength ranges multiplex the optical signal over the time domain, to emit a plurality of reference wavelengths for spectroscopy applications. The power requirements are greatly reduced by multiplexing over the time domain in time slots which do not affect sampling and receiving of the spectroscopy data.
