An ammonium polyphosphate based fire-retardant composition comprises an ammonium polyphosphate, a suspending agent, and an effective amount of at least two corrosion inhibiting agents selected from the group of corrosion inhibiting agents including activated carbon, Epsom salts, Gypsum, azoles, and vapor phase inhibitors. The composition may further include a xanthan gum, a coloring agent or both. 

Ammonium polyphosphate based fire-retardant compositions

There is provided the use of cellulose nanocrystals as a corrosion inhibitor for inhibiting corrosion of a metal object made of steel. The use includes using acid to impart ester groups onto the cellulose nanocrystals. The use includes dispersing an effective corrosion inhibiting amount of the cellulose nanocrystals having the ester groups within a composition comprising a carrier essentially consisting of water. The cellulose nanocrystals are provided in an amount equal to or greater than 0.1% by weight of the carrier and equal to or less than 3.0% by weight of the carrier. The use includes applying an effective corrosion inhibiting amount of the composition to the metal object such that the composition is adapted to inhibit corrosion of the metal object by 8% or more.

Use of charged cellulose nanocrystals for corrosion inhibition and a corrosion inhibiting composition comprising the same

The present invention relates to a corrosion inhibitor comprising cellulose nanocrystals. According to another aspect, there is provided a corrosion-inhibiting agent essentially consisting of a plurality of cellulose nanocrystals. The above set out cellulose nanocrystals may be in free form, such as acid-form cellulose nanocrystals, in one embodiment and added to a carrier. The cellulose nanocrystals may be effective in inhibiting ferrous and non-ferrous metals. According to a further aspect, the invention relates to a corrosion-inhibiting composition comprising a corrosion inhibitor and the above set out corrosion-inhibiting agent in an effective combination to inhibit corrosion of metals. The composition may be effective in inhibiting ferrous metals when the cellulose nanocrystals are in either salt or free form. The composition may be effective in inhibiting corrosion of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals when the cellulose nanocrystals are in free form.

Corrosion inhibitor comprising cellulose nanocrystals and cellulose nanocrystals in combination with a corrosion inhibitor

A fire-retardant composition comprising an ammonium polyphosphate, a suspending agent and an effective amount of a corrosion inhibiting agent. When in solution the corrosion inhibiting agent includes at least one ion selected from the group of ions consisting of aluminum ions, ferric ions, calcium ions and magnesium ions. Said ions complex an effective amount of fluoride ions present in the fire-retardant composition to reduce the corrosiveness of the fire-retardant composition.
