An orthopedic cast package is disclosed comprised of a vapor-proof container having disposed therein a smaller cylindrical role of orthopedic tape wetted with a solution of a thermoplastic polymer in a non-toxic volatile solvent having a polymer concentration of at least about 20% by weight. The tape roll is disposed in a spaced relationship away from the sides and bottom of the container which is opened at the top.

A prolonged release drug dosage form for the treatment of bovine mastitis, specifically suited for dry cow treatment, consists of an antimicrobial agent dispersed in a matrix of a low molecular weight polyester of glycolic and lactic acids, and shaped as a cylindrical bougie for facile insertion into the teat canal. Said polyester erodes by hydrolysis in the bioenvironment, providing a continuous release of the medication throughout the desired duration of the treatment. The low molecular weight polyesters have a glycolic acid content of about 60 to 80 mole percent, a lactic acid content of about 20 to 40 mole percent, and a molecular weight less than 2000.

Prolonged release drug form for the treatment of bovine mastitis

Polyester salts of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is an alkali metal, hydrogen or a combination of the two; R is methyl or hydrogen and m has a value from about 3 to about 30. These novel linear polyester salts find utility as absorbable matrix materials for depot drug dosage forms.

Linear polyester salts

The disclosure is directed to dosage forms for buccal administration of a drug and are directly applicable to the interior surfaces of the mouth. The dosage form is comprised of a support member, which is water insoluble, waterproof and flexible, a moisture activated, adhesive precursor applied to one surface of the support member and an active ingredient applied to the central portion of the support member either directly or dispersed in a matrix. In one embodiment, a recess is provided in the support member to receive the active ingredient. When the dosage form is applied directly to the interior surface of the mouth, contact with saliva activates the adhesive and causes the support member to adhere to the interior surface of the mouth, thereby exposing the active ingredient to a limited area of the oral mucosa while isolating the active ingredient from the remainder of the oral environment.

Dosage form

Completely miscible melt mixes of amorphous griseofulvin and certain polyglycolides or lactic acid modified polyglycolides are described which are formed by melting together griseofulvin and the polyglycolide or lactic acid modified polyglycolide, the latter having a molecular weight less than 2000 and a glycolic acid content of about 60 to 100 mole per cent. The cooled melt is transparent, glassy and capable of being finely divided. The griseofulvin contained therein, between 30 and 60% by weight, is amorphous and the finely divided melt mixture can be subdivided and incorporated into dosage forms.
