A multi-speed accessory drive employing a planetary gear reduction set. A cone clutch linked to an output member, a ball ramp actuator for moving the cone clutch into engagement with the output member and a brake for selectively controlling the rotation of the ring gear of the planetary gear set.

Multi-speed accessory drive

A drive (10) comprising a first (12) and a second (14) pulley rotationally isolated from an input shaft (16), and adapted to be drivingly connected to the input shaft. A plate (40) rotatable with the input shaft (16) and axially movable thereon between a first position in engagement with the first pulley and a second position in engagement with the second pulley (14); a rolling diaphragm (60) supported by one of the pulleys (12) for urging the plate (40) to move into engagement with the other of the pulleys (14), the diaphragm being attached to the one pulley (12) defining an activation chamber (80) therebetween, a controller (134) for communicating and modulating pressurized fluid to the activation chamber (80); and a spring (50) for biasing the plate toward and into engagement with the one pulley.

Double acting clutch

A drive (10) having high speed and low speed modes of operation comprising an input shaft (20), a planetary gear set (12) drivingly connected to the input shaft (20) comprising a sun gear (14) disposed about the input shaft, a brake (46) for preventing the ring gear from rotating during the low speed mode; an output pulley (50) linked to and rotatably with the planetary gear set (12), a clutch (60) for connecting the output pulley (50) to the input shaft (20) during the high speed mode and for disengaging the output pulley from the input shaft during the low speed mode, and bellows (90) for moving the clutch (60) into and out from engagement during the high and low speed modes.

A multi-speed accessory drive (10) employing a planetary gear reduction set (12). A cone clutch (89) linked to an output member (84), actuator (200) for moving the cone clutch (89) into engagement with the output pulley (84) and a band brake for selectively inhibiting the rotation of the ring gear (18) of the planetary gear set (12).

A two speed accessory drive (10) comprising an input unit (20) and a remotely positioned output unit (100) connected by a plurality of belts (108,100). The input unit is adapted to be driven by a remotely positioned driving member (102). The output unit, which is connected to the engine accessories by a serpentine belt (106), includes a linear actuator (280) for engaging and disengaging same.

Two speed accessory drive

A drive system (10) for rotating a plurality of engine mounted accessories comprising an input member (16) supporting a crank unit (12) and a remotely positioned auxiliary drive unit (14). The units include a plurality of output pulleys (22, 30, 90, 98) linked by drive belts (100, 102). The crank unit (12) comprises an axially movable clutch (38) and an electric responsive actuator (50, 66, 68, 72) for moving the clutch between engaged and disengaged conditions, including means for compensating for the wear of the internal components of the drive unit to affect repeatable engagement intervals.

A display system is made up of an array of blocks, each block in turn consisting of rows and columns of individual display units each having a thin, pivotally mounted vane movable by electrostatic forces between an upright (WRITE) position and a horizontal (ERASE) position. A message can be displayed by selection of a pattern of vanes moved from one position to the other. Each vane assembly is symmetrically bistable, being movable in both directions by the same triggering electrodes which are subjected to a short pulse of high D.C. voltage that kicks the vane towards a mid position and subsequently allows it to continue its travel under its own momentum and gravity. Selection of units not to be operated is carried out by means of inhibit electrodes located near the vane in its extreme positions, such electrodes, when energized, preventing movement by the triggering electrodes. By having two write inhibit electrodes adjacent the vane in its horizontal position and two erase inhibit electrodes adjacent the vane in its upright position, it is possible to energize a pattern of inhibit electrodes that will permit a given triggering signal to move only a single selected vane of the array.
