In one embodiment, a method comprises: classifying, by a controller device, a first access point device in a WLAN as a leader access point for a wireless client device, and at least a second access point device as a follower access point; and allocating, to the leader access point, a shortened medium access control layer timer ('timer') that is shorter than a prescribed timer used by the follower access point, the shortened timer causing the leader access point to respond to reception of a wireless data packet from the wireless client device by transmitting an acknowledgment to the wireless client device upon expiration of the shortened timer; the prescribed timer causing the follower access point to defer to the leader access point based on the follower access point waiting for at least expiration of the prescribed timer before selectively transmitting a corresponding acknowledgment in response to receiving the wireless data packet.

Presented herein are techniques for GPS attack prevention in association with wireless communication devices. In at least one embodiment, a method may include receiving, at a mobile device from a first access point (AP), first location information and one or more of a first token or first neighbor information relating to neighboring APs. The mobile device may receive from a second AP, second location information and one or more of a second token or second neighbor information relating to neighboring APs. The first token may be compared to the second token to determine whether the first and second tokens are consistent, and/or the first neighbor information may be compared to the second neighbor information to determine whether the first and second neighbor information are consistent. It may be determined whether the first location information provided by the first AP and the second location information provided by the second AP are valid based on the comparison(s).

GPS-attack prevention system and method for fine timing measurement (FTM) in 802.11AZ

Techniques are described to provide to discourage use of an unlicensed spectrum channel by Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) technologies. In one example, a method includes performing a plurality of wireless transmissions for an unlicensed channel, wherein performing the plurality of wireless transmissions comprises: determining whether a next wireless transmission is proximate to a Discovery Reference Signal (DRS) transmission window; based on determining that the next wireless transmission is proximate to the DRS transmission window, determining whether the unlicensed channel is available; and based on determining that the unlicensed channel is available, starting the next wireless transmission before the DRS transmission window, wherein the next wireless transmission overlaps the DRS transmission window.

Discouraging the use of an unlicensed spectrum channel by third generation partnership project (3GPP) technologies

In a wireless local area network (WLAN) that includes one or more wireless access points capable of serving one or more wireless clients, presence of one or more instances of interference from a particular type of interferer is detected on at least one channel in an unlicensed frequency band. In response to detecting the interference, a radio resource management process is biased to continue operation of at least one of the one or more access points, or individual radios of a multi-radio access point, on the channel to make at least some use of the channel for one or more wireless clients.

Automatic multi-cell enablement for coexistence with unlicensed interferer waveforms

Modifications to frame/subframe structure are presented herein so that a wireless device can transmit its data within a fraction of a subframe. The device obtains data to be transmitted in an unlicensed spectrum and determines whether an entire subframe is required to completely communicate the data. If the data is small enough to not require the entire subframe, then the device generates a burst transmission to minimize the time period of the subframe used to communicate the data. The device transmits the burst transmission and a parameter indicating the duration of the burst transmission.

Methods for long term evolution (LTE) transmission bursts to improve spectral efficiency in unlicensed frequency channels and indoor scenarios

Presented herein are mechanisms to reduce collisions in deployments with Wi-Fi and Shared Access LTE (SAC-LTE) equipment as well SAC-LTE equipment from multiple operators. The mechanisms enhance the baseline energy detection mechanism by incorporating methods to decode cross-technology physical layer elements and media access control (MAC) layer elements in the Wi-Fi system to elements in the SAC-LTE system. The methods described improve the detection potential for transmitters, thereby reducing chances of cross-technology collisions.

Transmit node detection by a receiver in a shared access LTE environment

A method is provided for minimizing cross-technology interference with data transmissions from a wireless device in a shared spectrum. The wireless device obtains data to be wirelessly transmitted in a transmission burst in a first radio access technology (RAT) format over a shared spectrum. The wireless device generates a preamble comprising assistance information related to the transmission burst. The preamble comprises a first preamble portion in the first RAT format and a second preamble portion in a second RAT format. The wireless device transmits the preamble followed by the transmission burst.

Minimizing interference in wireless communication

An emergency caller location system uses enterprise Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) location systems to provide more accurate location information on an emergency caller. A cellular telephone modifies its WLAN identifier, such as its Media Access Control (MAC) address, in response to a user initiating an emergency call. The MAC address is modified based on an identifier known to the cellular network, such as the phone number, subscriber name, International Mobile Equipment Identifier (IMEI), International Mobile Subscriber Identifier (IMSI), and/or International Circuit Card Identifier (ICCID). The cellular telephone may additionally modify the probe timer of the WLAN interface to enhance the ability of the WLAN location system to determine the location of the device.

Systems, methods, and computer program products to perform an operation comprising receiving, from a video monitoring system, a count of people detected at a first location, wherein the video monitoring system comprises a camera configured to capture video of the first location, receiving a count of wireless devices detected in a second location, and applying a first correction factor to the count of wireless devices detected at the second location to determine a number of people present in the second location, wherein the first correction factor is based on the count of people detected by the video monitoring system and a count of wireless devices in the first location.

Techniques are provided for determining, for at least one wireless access point in a wireless network, a number of first-time associations created with one or more wireless client devices in the wireless network. Based upon the determined number of first-time associations created, the number of discovery frames to be sent by the at least one wireless access point may be adjusted.

Adjusting number of discovery frames sent based on access point deployment

An access point is configured to control peer-to-peer wireless transmission in an area around the access point. The access point receives a message from a service providing device advertising a service. The access point receives another message from a service using device requesting the service. The access point determines whether the service using device or the service is prohibited in the area controlled by the access point. Responsive to a determination that the service using device is prohibited, the access point blocks the service using device from receiving the service. Responsive to a determination that the service is prohibited, the access point blocks the service providing device from providing the service.

Control and enhancement of direct wireless service communications

In an example embodiment, packet encapsulation is employed to facilitate bridging between bridge ports that do not reflect frames (such as 802.1 compatible bridge ports) and bridge ports that do reflect frames (such as 802.11 compatible clients). Packets from a wireless access point may be sent twice, once with a predefined multicast address for processing by 802.11 clients contained in bridges, and once with the original destination address. In particular embodiments, additional means may be employed to minimize the circumstances where packets are duplicated.

The method includes received data from at least one remote station and determining an EVM measure from samples of the received data. Selecting an access point according to a measure of received signal quality

A method for automatic hidden node detection that includes observing frame exchange sequences that conform to a MAC standard such as the IEEE 802.11 standard. The method includes detecting a hidden node upon receiving a response frame without previously receiving the frame causing the response. Similar conclusions may be drawn from longer frame sequences. When a hidden node has been detected with reasonable certainty, a hidden node report is sent to a hidden node manager. In one embodiment, the hidden node manager is centralized, and in another, the management function is performed in a distributed manner. Upon receiving a report, the hidden node manager automatically invokes hidden node avoidance measures by sending one or more action frames. In another embodiment, the hidden node manager turns on a hidden node mitigation method. In the case of the IEEE 802.11 standard, the hidden node manager turns on the IEEE 802.11 hidden node mitigation method based on RTS/CTS exchange.
