A method of producing a computer-generated image of a component part includes receiving scan data of the component part. The scan data includes a plurality of slices that change direction about a normal vector. The method further includes registering the scan data of the component part and transforming the scan data of the component part into a set of slices arranged in an x-y plane. Further, the method includes aligning the set of slices aligned along the axis along an axis in the x-y plane. In addition, the method includes adjusting the set of slices aligned along the axis using a background model for the component part, the scan data, or both. Thus, the method includes applying a directional filter to the set of slices aligned along the axis and generating the computer-generated image of the component part using the filtered set of slices aligned along the axis.

System and method of producing a computer-generated image of a component part using computed tomography

A system for imaging a component defining a negative space is provided comprising a component imaging assembly, a bolus insert, and an imaging device. The bolus insert is positionable in the component's negative space when the component is positioned within an imaging device imaging field to produce a component image. A method is provided comprising positioning a bolus insert within a component's negative space and scanning the component having the bolus insert to create an image of the component. A component imaging assembly is provided comprising a component including a first portion having a first thickness that is greater than a second thickness of a second portion; and a bolus insert positioned adjacent the second portion that has a bolus thickness substantially similar to a difference between the first and second thicknesses. The bolus insert has a bolus material density within fifteen percent (15%) of a component material density.

The method includes: determining scan data of the part, the scan data including data of a plurality of sequential segments; determining a background model for the part, the scan data, or both; and determining a bulk porosity based on a difference between the scan data and the background model.

A thermal inspection system includes a fluid source configured to supply a warm flow and a cool flow, indirectly or directly, to internal passage(s) of a component. The system includes an imager configured to capture a time series of images corresponding to a transient thermal response of the component to the warm and cool flows. The system further includes at least one flow meter configured to measure the warm and cool flows supplied to the component and a processor operably connected to the imager. The processor determines the transient thermal response of the component around a transition time. The flow supplied to the component switches from the warm flow to the cool flow at the transition time. The processor compares the transient thermal response around the transition time with one or more baseline values or with an acceptable range of values to determine if the component meets a desired specification.

Thermal inspection systems

A method for inspecting a component is provided. The method includes generating an image of the component, generating a signal indication mask, and generating a noise mask using a signal within the signal indication mask. The noise mask facilitates reducing a quantity of prospective signals contained in the signal indication mask. The method further includes utilizing the signal indication mask and the generated noise mask to calculate the signal-to-noise ratio of at least one potential flaw indication that may be present in the image.
