To navigate an electric vehicle from a starting location to a destination, a system identifies multiple charging stations between the starting location and the destination and determining a navigation route that requires a least amount of time for the electric vehicle to travel from the starting location to the destination via one or more of the charging stations, including determining a non-linear relationship between an amount of time and an amount of charge the EV receives during the amount of time.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for providing geographic information for software application development. In one example, a computer-implemented method is provided for determining candidate locations for a playability service, which includes obtaining, by one or more computing devices, a plurality of location points and filtering the plurality of location points to obtain a plurality of candidate location points based at least in part on a suitability of each of the location points for use in generating location-based application content. The method further includes generating, by the one or more computing devices, a candidate location dataset based on the plurality of candidate location points. The method further includes receiving, by the one or more computing devices, a request for one or more of the plurality of candidate location points and providing data associated with one or more of the plurality of candidate location points in response to the request.

Playability service application programming interface

A request for geographic content is received from a client device. The request includes (i) an indication that a user invoked the digital mapping service in a vehicle and (ii) an identifier of the user. In response to the request, profile data for the user including indications of previous interactions of the user with a digital mapping service is automatically retrieved. Geographic content is generated based on the indications of previous interactions in view of relevance of the previous interactions to an automotive context. The geographic content is provided to the client device for presentation in the vehicle.

Selection and presentation of geographic content in an automotive environment

This document describes systems, methods, devices, and other techniques for sharing navigation data among computing devices. The techniques can include identifying, by a first computing device, a second computing device, based on the first computing device detecting an audio signal emitted by one or more speakers of the second computing device, wherein the second computing device is running a navigation application that has been programed to navigate a geographic route. Using information encoded in the audio signal that was emitted by the one or more speakers of the second computing device, the first computing device can determine the geographic route that the navigation application running on the second computing device has been programmed to navigate. A representation of the geographic route can be displayed on an electronic display of the first computing device.

Sharing navigation data among co-located computing devices

A portable device is configured to provide geographic information to a head unit of a vehicle equipped with a display device. One or more processors determine a user context related to a geographic location and detect that the portable device has been communicatively coupled to the head unit of a vehicle. The one or more processors transmit to the head unit, without an express user command, a request that the head unit accept data from the portable device for output via the display device. In response to receiving an indication that that the request has been granted, the one or more processors cause information related to the geographic location to be displayed via the display device, without an express user input at the portable device.

Function selection in a portable device coupled to the head unit of a vehicle

To allow a user to provide a voice instruction to either a portable device or a computing device embedded within a vehicle, both the portable device and the embedded computing device receive the voice instruction such as, 'Direct me to Kansas City.' Moreover, both the portable device and the embedded computing device may determine the likelihoods that the portable device and the computing device, respectively, can carry out the voice instruction. The portable device and the computing device may then communicate with each other to compare the determined likelihoods. Based on the comparison, either the portable device or the computing device may respond to the voice instruction by, for example, playing a requested song, turning on the radio in the vehicle, providing navigation directions from the current location to a destination, etc.

Systems and methods for simultaneously receiving voice instructions on onboard and offboard devices

In a method for exchanging navigation data between a portable device and a head unit of a vehicle, implemented in a portable device that includes one or more processors executing a navigation service application and a companion application, the navigation service application sends a destination to a navigation server, and receives first navigation data from the navigation server. The first navigation data describes at least one of a plurality of steps for navigating between a source and the destination. A companion application invokes a navigation application programming interface (API) of the navigation service application, at by using a syntax and a list of parameters specific to the navigation API to obtain, from the navigation service application, the first navigation data, and sends the first navigation data to the head unit to cause the head unit to display navigation information indicating at least the one of the plurality of navigation steps.

A computerized method for automatically generating display content includes receiving a uniform resource locator, wherein the uniform resource locator specifies a landing resource and extracting visual information from the landing resource, wherein the visual information defines one or more images, texts, and colors displayed on the landing resource. The method further includes selecting one or more images, one or more text snippets, and one or more colors based on the visual information extracted from the landing resource, generating a layout for a content item based on one or more of the selected images or selected text snippets, and assembling the content item by applying the selected images, the selected text snippets, and the selected colors to the generated layout.

Systems and methods for automated content generation

A server operating in a communication network includes a network interface to communicate with remote hosts and a processing hardware configured to receive, from a portable device via the network interface, an indication of a geographic location selected at the portable device, at a first time. The processing hardware is further configured to store the indication of a geographic location and the first time and subsequently receive a request for a suggested geographic location from the portable device for use with a head unit of a vehicle, at a second time. Still further, the processing hardware is configured to determine, based at least on the difference between the first time and the second time, whether the stored geographic location should be suggested, and provide a suggestion including an indication of the stored geographic location to the portable device, in response to determining that the stored geographic location should be suggested.

Allocation of head unit resources to a portable device in an automotive environment

To automatically identify an attempt at presenting falsified vehicle identifiers to portable devices, (i) a vehicle identifier reported by a vehicle with which the portable device is establishing a short-range communication link, and (ii) an indication of a current location of the portable device, are received from a portable device at a first time. An indication of a recent location at which the vehicle identifier was reported at a second time is obtained. The current location of the portable device is compared to the recent location of the vehicle, in view of the first time and the second time. In response to determining that the current location is not proximate to the recent reported location of the vehicle, an indication that the reported identifier is likely falsified is generated.

Anti-spoofing protection in an automotive environment

A set of instructions implements an application programming interface (API) for providing navigation data from a portable device to a head unit of a vehicle. When invoked by a companion application executing on the portable device, the API is configured to obtain navigation data for navigating a user between a source and a destination, where the portable device receives the navigation data from a navigation server via a long-range communication link. The API is further configured to provide the navigation data to the companion application for transmission to the head unit via a short-range communication link.
