In a computer-implemented method, a portion of an electronic document is displayed on a touch screen display of a portable multifunction device. The displayed portion has a vertical position and a horizontal position in the electronic document. An object is detected on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document. In response to detecting the object, a vertical bar and a horizontal bar are displayed on top of the displayed portion. The vertical bar has a vertical position on top of the displayed portion that corresponds to the vertical position in the electronic document of the displayed portion. The horizontal bar has a horizontal position on top of the displayed portion that corresponds to the horizontal position in the electronic document of the displayed portion. After a predetermined condition is met, display of the vertical bar and of the horizontal bar is ceased.

A computer system detects an input that is directed, when the input starts, to a location within a view in a user interface, and consequentially: sends to a software element associated with the view a plurality of input events, wherein each input event comprises a data structure including a phase field that describes a state of the input at a respective time, and the phase field of one of the plurality of input events is set to an input phase began value indicating that the input is new; determines whether or not the input should be ignored by the electronic device; and, in accordance with a determination that the input should be ignored by the electronic device, includes in the plurality of input events an input event whose phase field is set to an input phase cancel value indicating that the input has been cancelled.

The subject technology provides for stroke based control of handwriting input. The disclosed stroke based control facilitates selection, copy, paste, search, data detection and other operations for handwritten electronic text. The selection of text represented by handwritten strokes can be performed without drawing a lasso or other loop around the desired text, by using known boundaries of words and phrases in stroke space. Selection of text in this manner allows copy and/or paste of recognized words or phrases, of images of the words or phrases, and/or of the strokes themselves. Boundaries, in stroke space, of actionable data represented by the strokes can also allow action options to be provided when a user interacts with strokes within the boundary.

A device with a multi-touch panel displays a user interface, and detects a touch input on the multi-touch panel at a position corresponding to a respective portion of the user interface. In response, the device transmits, to a software application for the respective portion of the user interface, a touch event data structure that describes the touch input, wherein the touch event data structure includes a tap count field that indicates a tap count, indicating how many taps have been sequentially performed at the position of the touch input.

A portable multifunction device displays a first user interface object and a second user interface object on a touch screen display. Upon detecting a finger-down event at the first user interface object and one or more finger-dragging events on the touch screen display, the device moves the first user interface object on the touch screen display along a path determined by the finger-dragging events until the first user interface object at least in part overlaps the second user interface object. Upon detecting a finger-up event at the second user interface object, the device visually replaces the second user interface object with the first user interface object.

The method includes starting at least two animations. The method further includes determining the progress of each animation. Animations

An accessory device application executes on an accessory device of limited resources. The accessory device application includes an accessory device stub application and an interface definition. When a user interacts with the accessory device application, display changes are generated in response, in accordance with the interface definition, and are sent to a companion extension at an associated companion device. The companion extension receives the changes, and generates updated display values for the accessory device display. The updated display values are sent from the companion device daemon to the daemon of the accessory device, which displays the updated display values at the accessory device display. The functionality and operation of the accessory device application permit an accessory device of limited resources to leverage data processing and computational power of the companion device, to provide a more involving user experience at the accessory device.

An electronic device with a display, a touch-sensitive surface, and software code configured to interact with applications and provide the applications with an application programming interface (API) for performing gesture operations in response to a user input detected on the touch-sensitive surface, detects, via the software code, a drag input that includes movement of a contact on the touch-sensitive surface that corresponds to movement over a displayed scrollable region in an application. While detecting the drag input, the device scrolls on the display, via the software code, the scrollable region of the application in accordance with the drag input. After detecting an end of the drag input, the device continues to scroll on the display, via the software code, the scrollable region in accordance with the drag input including slowing the scroll to a stop over time in accordance with a deceleration factor set using the API.

A device with a multi-touch panel and a computer readable medium storing software for displaying a user interface on the multi-touch panel detects a touch at the multi-touch panel. The device sends to the software a touch data structure for defining a state of the touch at a particular time. The touch data structure includes: a location field indicating a location where the touch was or is being received on the multi-touch panel; a phase field defining a phase of the touch at the particular time, the phase of the touch being selected from a plurality of predefined phase state values; and a view field indicating a view, of a plurality of views corresponding to portions of the displayed user interface, that corresponds to the location where the touch was or is being received on the multi-touch panel.

In a computer-implemented method, a portion of an electronic document is displayed on the touch screen display. The displayed portion of the electronic document has a vertical position in the electronic document. An object is detected on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document. In response to detecting the object on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document, a vertical bar is displayed on top of the displayed portion of the electronic document. After a predetermined condition is met, display of the vertical bar is ceased. The vertical bar is displayed for a predetermined time period when the portion of the electronic document is initially displayed.

Portable electronic device, method, and graphical user interface for displaying electronic lists and documents

At least certain embodiments of the present disclosure include an environment with user interface software interacting with a software application. A method for operating through application programming interface (API) in this environment includes transferring a set bounce call. The method further includes setting at least one of maximum and minimum bounce values. The set bounce call causes a bounce of a scrolled region in an opposite direction of a scroll based on a region past an edge of the scrolled region being visible in a display region at the end of the scroll.
