A method that includes determining a level of sound within an acoustic environment captured by a microphone; receiving, from a headset worn by a user, data indicating an audio processing mode in which the headset is operating; determining a level of attenuation of the sound based on the audio processing mode and the level of sound; estimating sound exposure based on at least the level of attenuation and the level of sound; and transmitting the sound exposure to an application program.

Method and system for estimating environmental noise attenuation

A method performed by an in-ear headphone. Coupled to the in-ear headphone is a first ear tip that is inserted into an ear canal of a user. The method obtains an audio signal from an audio source device paired with the in-ear headphone and uses the signal to drive a speaker of the headphone to output a sound into the ear canal. The method obtains a microphone signal that is responsive to the outputted sound. The method notifies the user to replace the first ear tip with a second ear tip in response to a parameter associated with the microphone signal being less than a threshold.

Acoustic detection of in-ear headphone fit

A headset can include left and right ear-worn speakers and a control. In response to a control input of the control, the ear-worn speakers can be driven with driver signals that include a control sound having a virtual location determined by spatial auditory cues. The control sound can indicate a behavior of the control as a result of the control input. Other aspects are also described and claimed.

Augmenting control sound with spatial audio cues

The present disclosure generally relates to user interfaces and techniques for managing and visualizing sound reduction using a computer system. In accordance with some embodiments, the computer system displays an indication that a second noise level is less than a first sound level when the computer system is using a sound reduction device. In accordance with some embodiments, the computer system displays a representation of a noise level at a plurality of different times that indicates a first noise level when a sound reduction effect was in effect, and that indicates a second noise level when the sound reduction effect was not in effect. In accordance with some embodiments, the computer system displays a representation of a sound reduction level for a first time period and receives an input selling a second time period different from the first time period, and in response to the input, the computer system displays a representation of the sound reduction level for the second time period.

Methods and user interfaces for monitoring sound reduction

An audio system has an ambient sound enhancement function, in which an against-the-ear audio device having a speaker converts a digitally processed version of an input audio signal into sound. The audio system also has an acoustic noise cancellation (ANC) function that may be combined in various ways with the sound enhancement function, and that may be responsive to voice activity detection. Ambient sound enhancement and acoustic noise cancellation based on context

While a first wearable audio output component of a wearable audio output device is in a first position relative to a first ear of a user and a second wearable audio output component of the wearable audio output device is in the first position relative to a second ear, a computer system operates the wearable audio output device in a first mode. While doing so, the computer system detects a change in position of the first component from the first position to a second position; and, in response, while the second component is maintained in the first position, the computer system transitions the wearable audio output device from the first mode to a different, second mode that is a pass-through mode in which audio outputs provided via the wearable audio output device include pass-through audio components that include at least a portion of ambient sound from the physical environment.

Systems, methods, and user interfaces for headphone fit adjustment and audio output control

An audio system has an ambient sound enhancement function, in which an against-the-ear audio device having a speaker converts a digitally processed version of an input audio signal into sound. The input audio signal may be amplified where the amplification may be in accordance with a stored hearing profile of the user (personalized ambient sound enhancement.) The audio system also has an acoustic noise cancellation (ANC) function that may be combined in various ways with the sound enhancement function, and that may be responsive to voice activity detection. Other aspects are also described and claimed.

Ambient sound enhancement based on hearing profile and acoustic noise cancellation

A method of adjusting an audio signal equalizer setting. A first and a second equalizer setting are selected from a population of equalizer settings for undergoing a binary comparing decision. The two equalizer settings are presented to a user by consecutively replaying an audio signal filtered by an equalizing unit according to the first or to the second equalizer setting respectively. The user's binary comparing decision between the first and the second equalizer setting according to his preferences is acquired. Further binary comparing decisions are performed until all members of the settings population have been part of a binary comparing decision. A score for the each presented equalizer settings is adapted based on the user's binary comparing decisions results. A weighted averaging is performed, based on the scores, in the frequency domain between the equalizer settings that received a high score, to obtain the result of the equalizer adjustment method.

A microphone unit is provided which includes a microphone for picking up sound of a unit which sound is to be picked up, a clamping unit having a first end configured to clamp to the unit and a second end for holding the microphone, a contactless vibration sensor configured to detect vibrations of the unit, and an audio gate unit coupled to the output of the microphone and to the output of the contactless vibration sensor as a trigger signal to allow the output of the microphone to be forwarded to an output terminal.
