A fan drive turbine drives a drive shaft. A compressor section and a turbine section rotate about a rotational axis, with the turbine section positioned in a downstream direction. A fan has fan blades and a fan hub positioned radially within a fan case, with the fan case defining a bypass duct. A fan inlet guide vane case is upstream of the fan blades and a fan exit guide vane case is mounted downstream. The drive shaft is mounted on at least one input drive shaft bearing inwardly of the fan inlet guide vane case. The drive shaft drives a flexible coupling to in turn drive a gear reduction. The gear reduction drives a fan drive shaft to in turn drive the fan hub. At least two fan drive shaft bearings support the fan drive shaft within the fan exit guide vane case. An aircraft is also disclosed.

A propulsion system for an aircraft includes a propulsor section that includes a fan with a plurality of fan blades that are rotatable about a fan axis, a core engine that is configured to generate a gas flow, a power turbine that is mechanically uncoupled from the core engine and rotatable independent of the core engine, the gas flow from the core engine is expanded through the power turbine to generate shaft power, a support structure where the power turbine is mounted relative the core engine, a fan drive gear system that is driven by the power turbine and at least partially mounted to the support structure, and a power turbine shaft that includes a first coupling to the fan drive gear system and a second coupling to the propulsor section.

A fuel system for a gas turbine engine includes a manifold assembly with an assembly inlet, an assembly outlet, and a plurality of fuel injectors. The manifold assembly also includes at least one fuel manifold fluidically connecting each fuel injector of the plurality of fuel injectors to the assembly inlet and to the assembly outlet. A fuel return line is fluidically connected to the assembly outlet. A fuel circulator pump includes a pump outlet fluidically connected to the assembly inlet.

A swirl recovery vane (SRV) includes a trunnion configured to pivotally connect to an exterior surface of an inner platform of an SRV structure system. The SRV includes a body extending radially from the trunnion to an unshrouded distal vane tip of the vane. The SRV includes a heat exchanger that includes a gas inlet configured to couple a bleed air valve of a compressor section of a gas generator to a gas channel. The heat exchanger includes the gas channel adapted to: enable gas to flow into the gas inlet as cool gas and out through a gas outlet as warm gas; and extend into the body of the vane to enable heat transfer from a heat source within the vane to the cool gas. The heat exchanger includes the gas outlet configured to output the warm gas from the channel to an ambient environment outside of the vane.

The rotating assembly includes a first bladed rotor and a second bladed rotor. The first bladed rotor includes a plurality of first rotor blades. The second bladed rotor includes a plurality of second rotor blades. The first structure is configured as or otherwise includes a first shroud. The first shroud circumscribes the first bladed rotor. The first shroud is adjacent first tips of the first rotor blades. The second structure is configured as or otherwise includes a second shroud. The second shroud circumscribes the second bladed rotor. The second shroud is adjacent second tips of the second rotor blades. The second shroud is configured to move along an axis relative to the first shroud. The thrust bearing couples the rotating assembly to the second structure.

The turbine engine includes a fan section, an engine core, a first geartrain, a core flowpath and a bypass flowpath. The fan section includes a fan rotor. The first rotating assembly drives rotation of the open propulsor rotor and the fan rotor through the first geartrain. The core flowpath extends through the low pressure compressor section, the high pressure compressor section, the combustor section, the high pressure turbine section and the low pressure turbine section. The bypass flowpath extends outside of and along the engine core.

A propulsion system for an aircraft includes an open propulsor rotor and a turbine engine configured to drive rotation of the open propulsor rotor about an axis. The turbine engine includes a core flowpath, a bypass flowpath, a fan section and an engine core. The engine core includes a compressor section, a combustor section and a turbine section. The core flowpath extends through the compressor section, the combustor section and the turbine section from an inlet into the core flowpath to an exhaust from the core flowpath. The inlet is next to and downstream of the fan section. The bypass flowpath extends outside of and along the engine core from an inlet into the bypass flowpath to an exhaust from the bypass flowpath. The inlet is next to and downstream of the fan section. The engine core is arranged axially between the fan section and the open propulsor rotor.

A buffer air assembly for an aircraft engine includes a low-pressure header, a high-pressure header, a low-pressure bleed air source, a high-pressure bleed air source, and an electric buffer compressor. The low-pressure header is connected to at least one low-pressure bearing compartment. The high-pressure header is connected to at least one high-pressure bearing compartment. The low-pressure bleed air source is connected to the low-pressure header. The low-pressure bleed air source is configured to direct a low-pressure buffering air to the at least one low-pressure bearing compartment through the low-pressure header. The high-pressure bleed air source is configured to direct a high-pressure buffering air to the at least one high-pressure bearing compartment through the high-pressure header. The electric buffer compressor is connected to the low-pressure header and the high-pressure header. The electric buffer compressor is configured to direct pressurized buffering air to the low-pressure header and the high-pressure header.

An apparatus comprises a variable pitch blade configured to connect with an endwall of an open rotor engine. The variable pitch blade defines a chamber therein on a bottom edge thereof. A retractable edge member pivotally connects within the chamber to move between a first position wherein at least a portion of the retractable edge member is located within the chamber and a second position wherein a portion of the retractable edge member extends downward from the bottom edge of the variable pitch blade to block a gap between the bottom edge of the variable pitch blade and the endwall.

A gas turbine engine is provided that includes a high pressure compressor (HPC), a combustor section, a high pressure turbine (HPT), and a bypass tangential on board injector (TOBI) system. The combustor section has a combustor. A core gas path extends through the HPC, the combustor section, and the HPT. The bypass TOBI system extends circumferentially around the engine axial centerline, and has a plurality of nozzles, inner and outer radial sides, a plurality of first type and second type radial passages configured to allow the gas from the HPC to pass from the inner radial side of the bypass TOBI system to the outer radial side of the bypass TOBI system, wherein the first type radial passages are differently configured from the second type radial passages.

A gas turbine engine includes a primary flow path fluidly connecting a compressor section, a combustor section and a turbine section. A cooling air flowpath is positioned radially outward of the primary flowpath. A first seal spans from an inner diameter of the cooling air flowpath to an outer diameter of the cooling air flowpath. The first seal includes at least one axial convolution and a plurality of pass through features. A bifurcation feature is positioned downstream of the first seal. The bifurcation feature is configured to direct a portion of an airflow through the first seal into a cooling air passage. A second seal contacts the bifurcation and the first seal, such that fluid radially inward of the bifurcation feature.
