An apparatus and method for placing a member in a wellbore. The apparatus includes member conveyable downhole, a component of the member configured to perform an action in the wellbore, a potential energy source, a locking device and a heat source. The potential energy source is capable of activating the component. The locking device constrains the potential energy source from activating the component when the locking device is in a first state. The heat source changes the locking device from the first state to a second state in which the locking device allows the potential energy source to activate the component.

An apparatus for generating power includes a fluid chamber configured to receive borehole fluid, one or more conductive coils surrounding the fluid chamber, a reciprocating magnetic shuttle disposed in the fluid chamber and dividing the fluid chamber into a first volume and a second volume, a first conduit connected to the first volume, and a second conduit connected to the second volume, the first conduit and the second conduit extending from a tubular conduit to an annulus. The apparatus includes a switching assembly configured to alternate between a first operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with the annulus and a second operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with the tubular conduit, to alternate a direction of differential pressure between the first volume and the second volume and cause the magnetic shuttle to move in a reciprocating motion and generate an electric current.

Power generation using pressure differential between a tubular and a borehole annulus

An apparatus for generating electrical power includes at least one power generation assembly having a housing including a fluid chamber, one or more conductive coils surrounding the fluid chamber, a reciprocating magnetic shuttle dividing the fluid chamber into a first volume and a second volume. The apparatus also includes at least one switching assembly configured to alternate between a first operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with a first fluid pressure source, and a second operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with a second fluid pressure source. The switching assembly is configured to alternate between the first operating state and the second operating state to alternate a direction of differential pressure between the first volume and the second volume and cause the magnetic shuttle to move in a reciprocating motion and generate an electric current in the one or more conductive coils.
