A processor of a computing device is described that receives user input to disable an application and determines whether the application is passive-enabled. Responsive to determining that the application is passive-enabled, the computing device causes the application to operate in a passive state. While the application operates in the passive state, one or more essential functions or services provided by the application that are required by an operating system of the computing device are enabled and any remaining functions or services provided by the application are disabled. After causing the application to operate in the passive state: the computing device outputs an indication that the application has been disabled in response to the user input to disable the application, and performs one or more operations that rely on the one or more essential functions or services provided by the application.

Passive-enabled applications for a computing device

Systems and methods are disclosed for shutting down a laser system in an intelligent and flexible manner. An intelligent laser interlock system includes both hardwired components, and intelligent components configured to execute computing instructions. The hardwired components and the intelligent components are configured to shutdown the laser system to one or more alternative shutdown states in response to one or more interlock signals.

Intelligent laser interlock system

A computing device has multiple user profiles. While a particular user profile is the currently-active user profile of a computing device, the computing device determines whether a binary that is not associated with the particular user profile is already stored at the computing device. In response to determining that the binary is not already stored at the computing device, the computing device downloads the binary from a computing system other than the computing device and associates the binary with the particular user profile. If the binary is already stored at the computing device, the computing device associates the binary with the particular user profile without downloading the binary again.

Re-use of binaries for multiple user accounts

A method for updating an application on a mobile device includes accessing, at the mobile device, application management information. The application management information identifies a plurality of applications installed on the mobile device and one or more granted permission settings associated with each installed application. The method also includes sending, from the mobile device to a server, a request for update information regarding each installed application and receiving, at the mobile device from the server, the update information. The update information identifies an update package for a respective application of the plurality of installed applications. The method also includes installing the update package without user interaction from a user of the mobile device if one or more required permission settings associated with the update package are included in the one or more granted permission settings associated with the respective application of the plurality of installed applications.

Automatic application updates

In exemplary embodiments, an ultra short pulse system comprises a laser platform which includes an optical source configured to generate an optical pulse, an optical amplifier configured to amplify the optical pulse, and a compressor configured to temporally compress the amplified optical pulse. The ultra short pulse system further comprises monitor circuitry configured to monitor one or more performance aspects of the laser platform. Additionally, the ultra short pulse system may comprise logic configured to control the one or more performance aspects of the laser platform in response to at least the monitored one or more performance aspects.

Automated laser tuning

A method includes receiving, from a remote computing device, an update request, the update request including a first signature corresponding to a client-side application package that is stored at the remote computing device. The method also includes identifying a first server-side application package using the first signature. The method also includes generating a differential update package using the first server-side application package and a second server-side application package as inputs, wherein the differential update package, when applied to the client side application package, is operable to modify to the client-side application package such that it is functionally equivalent to the second server-side application package.

Methods for updating applications

The present invention comprises, in various embodiments, systems and methods for shutting down a laser system in an intelligent and flexible manner. A method of controlling an ultra-short pulse system is described comprising controlling an optical power within the ultra-short pulse system and control-system controlling a width of an optical pulse. In some embodiments, the method also comprises tuning a compressor by controlling a number of passes of the optical pulse through a Bragg grating to control the width of the optical pulse output from the compressor. In other embodiments, the method may comprise tuning a multi-pass stretcher by controlling a number of passes of the optical pulse through a loop of the multi-pass stretcher to control the width of the optical pulse output from the multi-pass stretcher. A method of controlling an ultra-short pulse system may also comprise accessing a control system from a remotely located command station, communicating status information from the control system to the command station, and communicating information from the command station to the control system.

Systems and methods for control of ultra short pulse amplification

A chirped pulse amplification system includes one or more polarization compensator configured to compensate for polarization altering elements with the chirped pulse amplification system. The polarization compensator is responsive to a sensor configured to provide feedback to the polarization compensator. In some embodiments, the chirped pulse amplification system further includes a controller configured to automatically adjust the polarization compensator responsive to the sensor. The sensor is optionally a power sensor.

Automated polarization correction

A chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system and method is described wherein the pulse is stretched using multiple passes through a Bragg grating or compressed using multiple passes through a Bragg grating. A switch may be used to control the number of passes through the Bragg grating, thus, tuning the compressed or the stretched pulse width. The pulse may be directed through an amplifier between the multiple passes through the Bragg grating to apply amplification to the stretched pulse multiple times. The Bragg grating may include a fiber Bragg grating, a volume Bragg grating, or a Bragg waveguide.

Systems and methods are provided for compressing and decompressing session initiation protocol (SIP) messages. A serializer and parser compress and decode SIP data structures according to a tokenized binary protocol. The compression/decompression protocol uses tokens the represent message elements of the internal data structures that define SIP messages. Tokens may be assigned to message elements based on various design requirements. Some tokens provide sufficient generality to encode any legal SIP message, while others are highly optimized to match the elements found in most common SIP messages. For those elements requiring specific strings, three dictionaries are defined. Two of the dictionaries are static and are never transmitted; the third dictionary is dynamic and contains strings found only in the specific message. Because the message dictionary is transmitted with each message, and contributes to the size of the transmitted message, the message element tokens are designed to reduce the size of the message dictionary to the greatest degree possible. The compression of SIP messages in this manner is stateless in that it does not require knowledge of the characteristics of previous messages.

Tokenized compression of session initiation protocol data

A method and system that helps to reduce delay in initiating communication sessions. A network entity operates as a signaling agent on behalf of a terminating node and positively acknowledges a session initiation request on behalf of the terminating node without first receiving a positive acknowledgement from the terminating node. For example, the network entity may first send an alert message to the terminating node and then positively respond to the session initiation request before receiving from the terminating node a response to the alert message. As another example, the network entity may first positively respond to the session initiation request and then send an alert message to the terminating node. This arrangement can advantageously allow the session setup process to continue, without first waiting for an actual positive acknowledgement from the terminating node.
