An axe head is attached to a handle in a manner that utilizes the inertia of the axe head to bear against a structure that resists separation of the axe head from the handle. In one example, that structure is a key that fits within the handle after the axe head is slid onto the handle, resisting passage of the axe head past the key. In another example, at least one end piece is joined to a narrowed, toothed section of the handle, forming an assembly with a friction fitted portion and an end portion with a diameter that exceeds the diameter of the hole in the axe head, retaining the axe head on the friction fitted portion of the handle assembly.

A Balisong knife includes a latch that resists compression of the back end of the handles towards each other under grip pressure by the user, thus increasing the columns strength of the handles when the knife is in a latched open configuration. A crossmember is provided adjacent to the latch pivot, resisting movement of the latch into any position wherein interference between the latch and tip of the blade could occur. Integral, friction reducing surfaces are provided on components of the knife. The knife can be assembled using snap fit pivot pins. The blade includes portions of varying thickness, providing additional thickness in the region of the points for greater strength, while allowing center edges for more effective cutting.

A knife includes interchangeable blades that are secured within the handle using a locking mechanism having a lock pin disposed between the distal end of the lock bar and the blade. In addition to strengthening the lock, the lock pin also serves as a safety catch n the unlikely event of lock failure, resisting rotation of the blade into a position in which the user's fingers would be cut.

A folding knife has an elongated blade having a pivot end and an opposed free end, the pivot end of the blade pivotally connected to a handle, the blade being movable between a closed position in which the blade is protectively received by the handle and an open position in which the blade extends away from the handle, a back lock element pivotally connected to the handle and having a block portion, the back lock element movable between a locked position in which the block portion operably contacts a portion of the pivot end of the blade to prevent movement of the blade from the open position to the closed position, and an unlocked position in which movement of the blade from the open position to the closed position is enabled, and a safety element movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position.

The sliding locking arm is mounted within the knife handle on dual fixed guide and pivot pins within respective arm openings being spring urged there against. Arm projections are engaged by the blade shank during operation moving the locking arm back and up then releasing to slide forward locking the blade in open use position until manual arm engagement by the user against the spring for release and transitional closure.

A folding knife having an improved locking engagement mechanism that will maintain and hold the knife in an open locked use position or in a locked folded position. The improved locking engagement provides a spring urged dual locking bar engaged directly on the knife blade for an improved imparted force transfer. A positional locking activation safety button is resiliently registerably against an apertured pivot arm extension of the locking bar for locking and unlocking engagement.
