A portable antenna for wireless communication, the portable antenna comprising: an electromagnetically reflective material; a first mechanical structure supporting preferred shape of the electromagnetically reflective material when in deployed position; a second mechanical structure attached to at least one point on the preferred shape and adjustable to hold a mobile wireless communication device at a preferred position relative to the preferred shape, is claimed. Additionally disclosed is a system comprising the portable antenna wherein the second mechanical structure is adapted to hold a feed instead of a mobile device and a cover for a mobile wireless communication device, comprising a signal coupling mechanism, and a signal routing means, and wherein the a signal routing means is coupled to the feed.

Portable antenna

A method of determining a position of a mobile electronic device with respect to a beacon is provided. The beacon transmits three or more radio signals having unique identifiers in different directions within a plane. The method includes receiving the radio signals and determining the received signal strength of each of the received radio signals. The method also includes calculating signal strength difference values for pairs of the received radio signals and determining an azimuth of the mobile electronic device relative to the beacon based on the calculated signal strength difference values for the pairs.

Positioning beacon and method

A method for improving signal quality for a mobile electronic device and an apparatus embodying the method, comprising a protective case comprising a shell that encases at least a portion of the mobile electronic device; an external antenna assembly position-ably attached to the shell; a transmission line attached to the shell and electrically interconnected to the case antenna; and a near-field coupling device attached to the shell and having a feed port electrically interconnected to the transmission line, the near-field coupling device configured to near-field couple to a native antenna of the encased mobile electronic device to capture an electromagnetic signal generated by the native antenna of the mobile electronic device.

Electronic device case with antenna

A case for a mobile electronic device is provided. The case includes a shell, a case antenna, a transmission line, and a near-field coupling device. The shell encases at least a portion of the mobile electronic device. The case antenna is attached to the shell. The transmission line is also attached to the shell and electrically interconnects to the case antenna. The near-field coupling device has a feed port electrically interconnected to the transmission line and is configured to near-field couple to a native antenna of the mobile electronic device to capture an electromagnetic signal generated by the native antenna of the mobile electronic device. The near-field coupling device is also configured to conduct the captured electromagnetic signal from the feed port of the near-field coupling device to the case antenna through the transmission line.
