An embodiment of the present invention is a technique to manage elapsed time performance. Current baseline statistics on N performance components are obtained for a set of programs belonging to a single workload group. N current component performance values associated with the N performance components are obtained in a current measurement for the set of programs at the beginning of a current monitoring cycle. A control component is selected from the N performance components based on the current baseline statistics and the N current component performance values. A control value is applied to an operation corresponding to the control component in the set of programs. A next monitoring cycle is waited for.

Controlling process group execution elapsed time through component performance control

Mechanisms and methods for traversing trees are disclosed. A novel data structure for modeling a node that includes a unique node counter also is described. In certain embodiments of the inventions the unique node counter is a timestamp of sufficient granularity to render each timestamp in the tree unique. A node counter, in conjunction with the lineage of a specified continuation node may be used to locate an appropriate starting point within a tree in a continuation call when the specified continuation node no longer exists in the tree.

Mechanism for continuable calls to partially traverse a dynamic general tree

In a heterogeneous computer system including at least one Client CPU, at least one Server CPU and a common memory disposed therebetween for storing first and second operating systems that control operation of the Client and Server CPUs, respectively. There is provided Client and Server Programs, both of which are stored in the same common memory. The Client Program is executed by the Client CPU and the Server Program is executed by the Server CPU. A method and system is disclosed wherein the Server Program is adapted for making function calls to the Client Program and the Client Program is adapted for returning results of the called function to the Server Program. The Server Program includes Procedures for invoking a Client Program function, converting parameters and result data from a format compatible with the first operating system to one compatible with the second operating system.
