The present invention provides a system and method for a system for accommodating a solid target in an accelerator. The system and method includes a target changer having at least one port for accommodating the solid target, an insert for receiving the solid target in the target changer, a piston for providing a vacuum and a cooling system for the solid target, a cylinder for displacing the piston in one of three positions; and a bracket for securing the insert, piston and cylinder to the target changer.

A method and device for reducing positron emitter isotope labeled COto positron emitter isotope labeled CO generally includes introducing a volume of positron emitter isotope labeled COinto a first heated reaction vessel comprising a metal oxide, such as Iron (II) Oxide such that the COis reduced to CO upon contact with the Iron (II) Oxide. The volume is then transferred to a second reaction vessel to remove any un-reacted CO, preferably, via a soda-lime trap. The volume is then transferred to a target, e.g., a storage vessel or subject. The COincludes one of [C] or [O]. The first reaction vessel is, preferably, heated to a temperature of between 900 and 1000&#xb0; C., and more preferably, to between 925 and 975&#xb0; C., and even more preferably, to approximately 950&#xb0; C. Preferably, the Iron (II) Oxide powdered and has a particle size of about &#x2212;10 mesh.

Solid target system for the handling of a Cu-64 target

A closure () for shielding, and selectively providing access to, the targeting assembly of a particle accelerator of a radioisotope production system. The closure () includes at least one, and in one embodiment, first and second doors (), for selectively covering an opening in the housing of the particle accelerator which provides access to the targeting assembly. A door mounting assembly is also provided for mounting the first and second doors () on the housing of the particle accelerator. In one embodiment the door mounting assembly includes a frame () for being secured about the opening in the particle accelerator accessing the targeting assembly. Further, in one embodiment the frame () and first and second doors () are fabricated of copper.
