This application is directed to a method for controlling user experience (UX) operations on an electronic device that executes an application. A touchless UX operation associated with the application has an initiation condition including at least detection of a presence and a gesture in a required proximity range with a required confidence level. The electronic device then determines from a first sensor signal the proximity of the presence with respect to the electronic device. In accordance with a determination that the determined proximity is in the required proximity range, the electronic device determines from a second sensor signal a gesture associated with the proximity of the presence and an associated confidence level of the determination of the gesture. In accordance with a determination that the determined gesture and associated confidence level satisfy the initiation condition, the electronic device initializes the touchless UX operation associated with the application.

Confidence-based application-specific user interactions

Techniques and apparatuses are described that facilitate ambient computing using a radar system. Compared to other smart devices that rely on a physical user interface, a smart device with a radar system can support ambient computing by providing an eye-free interaction and less cognitively demanding gesture-based user interface. The radar system can be designed to address a variety of challenges associated with ambient computing, including power consumption, environmental variations, background noise, size, and user privacy. The radar system uses an ambient-computing machine-learned module to quickly recognize gestures performed by a user up to at least two meters away. The ambient-computing machine-learned module is trained to filter background noise and have a sufficiently low false positive rate to enhance the user experience.

Facilitating ambient computing using a radar system

Embodiments are provided for managing the operation of sensors in an electronic device. According to certain aspects, the electronic device may detect a change in motion from a set of lower-sensitivity sensor data generated by a sensor(s) operating in a lower-sensitivity mode. When the change in motion is detected and during a timeout window, the sensor(s) may generate an additional set of lower-sensitivity sensor data and a set of higher-sensitivity sensor data. The electronic device may initially confirm the change in motion based on analyzing the set of higher-sensitivity sensor data. Further, the electronic device may determine that the additional set of lower-sensitivity does not indicate an additional change in motion, and may deem the confirmation of the change in motion as a false positive.

Systems and methods for managing sensors of an electronic device, and associated electronic devices

Embodiments are provided for managing the operation of sensors in an electronic device. According to certain aspects, the electronic device may detect a change in motion from an initial set of sensor data generated by a sensor(s). A memory cache may store the initial set of sensor data or additional sensor data generated by the sensor(s). The electronic device may initiate a supplemental algorithm that analyzes the cached data. Based on the analysis of the cached data and whether the change in motion is confirmed or whether additional motion is detected, the electronic device may manage the operation of the supplemental algorithm.

A method and system can include: a station including a station communication unit, a station control unit, and a station storage unit; receiving transmissions of signals containing messages from beacons; detecting IDs from the messages; detecting a received strength of the signals; adding the IDs to a list; identifying one of the IDs as corresponding to an active user based on the list only having a single one of the IDs or based on a probability of the IDs being above a threshold, the active user being a user interfacing with the station; and disambiguating the IDs on the list based on the probability of the IDs being below the threshold.

A method and apparatus for monitoring hand-washing compliance can include: detecting sensor readings; calculating movement estimations based on differences between the sensor readings; counting a number of crosses based on how often the movement estimations: are calculated above an upper threshold and are calculated below a lower threshold in consecutive movement calculations, are calculated below the lower threshold and are calculated above the upper threshold in the consecutive movement calculations, or a combination thereof; decrementing a countdown timer based on the number of crosses being above a cross-threshold; and pausing the countdown timer based on the number of crosses being below the cross-threshold.
