A multi-point door lock system comprising an active lock and an inactive lock for use on single or double doors is self-teaching, provides one hand control of shoot bolts, and provides audible and tactile feedback associated with shoot bolt extension and retraction.

Multi-point door lock system

A flush bolt including override protection is disclosed for flush mounting on the inactive one of a pair of swinging doors. In one embodiment of the invention, an automatic flush bolt comprising a trigger member senses whether the active door is closed. If closed, the flush bolt assumes an engaged position securing a bolt into a securing surface. If open, the flush bolt assumes its disengaged position with the bolt retracted into the mechanism. In a second embodiment of the invention, a semi-automatic flush bolt is provided with a slotted member and a spring to bias the bolt toward the engaged position. When the door containing the mechanism is closed, the bolt may temporarily and automatically override the securing surface and engage the securing surface without damage to the mechanism, the door, or the door frame. Opening the door requires manual intervention through activation of a control member. In both embodiments, biasing toward a preselected position of the flush bolt is provided by a single helical spring under compression.

Flush bolt mechanism for double doors

A door coordinator for controlling the closing sequence of a pair of double doors having a common line of closure. The coordinator has a biased trigger which pivots and a door stop which translates toward the rear of the coordinator upon triggering. Override is provided by an override block (preferably pivotally mounted) biased into a first position which moves to a second position upon application of more than threshold override force. With the override block in the second position, the door stop is free to move in translation to the rear of the coordinator and permit closure of the door even if the trigger is not depressed. Threshold override force is adjusted by a screw which adjusts the angular position of a base plate in contact with biasing springs which bias the override block.

Door coordinator

A flush bolt including override protection is disclosed for flush mounting on the inactive one of a pair of swinging doors. A push-type and a pull-type door-latch opener capable of use with a plunger-type fusible pin operated fire-safety lock mechanism including a mounting plate, a horizontal pivoting rod attached to the plate, a vertical pivoting rod attached to the plate at a right angle to and adjacent the horizontal pivoting rod, a horizontal bell crank pivoted about the vertical rod and having a first arm projecting into the plane of the door for operating the door-latch and a second arm engaged by a portion of a door handle pivoted on the horizontal rod, and a torsion spring coaxial with the horizontal rod for biasing the door handle into a preselected position.

Door-latch opener

A casing jacking mechanism is positionable in the rotary table opening of a well drilling rig to lower casing into the well, and is preferably formed sectionally of a number of components adapted to be assembled temporarily on the rig and subsequently dismantled after the casing has been lowered. The jacking machanism may include a first support structure to be located above the upper end of the well, two piston and cylinder mechanisms adapted to be lowered at different sides of the axis of the well to positions in which their cylinders are connected by the support structure, a second support structure connectable to and actuable vertically by the pistons of the piston and cylinder mechanisms a spider unit adapted to be placed on the first support structure and releasably engageable with the well pipe, and an elevator to be positioned on the second support structure for movement vertically therewith and also releasably engageable with the well pipe.

Well casing jack mechanism

A jack for lowering casing from a drilling rig into a well, including a plurality of piston and cylinder mechanisms extending vertically at different sides of the well axis and supported at their lower ends from a base, a first structure extending between upper ends of the cylinders of those mechanisms and supported from the base through the cylinders, a second structure supported by and movable with the pistons, and gripping units carried by the two structures and releasably engageable with the casing to lower it in steps by relative vertical actuation of the two structures by the piston and cylinder mechanisms.

Jacking mechanism for moving a string of casing or other well pipe vertically within a well and including two units operable to releasably engage and support the pipe, power actuated mechanism for moving one of the units upwardly and downwardly relative to the other to jack the pipe vertically through a wellhead structure, and apparatus for supporting the power actuated mechanism and units at least in part from that wellhead structure.

A jacking mechanism for lowering a string of casing or other well pipe into a well includes two structures which extend generally vertically beneath the floor of a drilling rig and which have portions functioning as power operated actuating units for moving one of two pipe supporting units upwardly and downwardly relative to the other, with the two specified generally vertical structures being offset circularly about the well axis from the location of a tubular mousehole element, and with one or more blowout preventers beneath the rig floor having a portion projecting outwardly away from the well axis at a location circularly between one of the generally vertical structures of the jacking mechanism and the mousehole.

Positioning of well pipe jack in a rig

A well drilling rig having a rotary table for driving a drill string rotatively and having jacking mechanism for lowering casing into the well after drilling, with the jacking mechanism including fluid pressure actuated piston and cylinder means which may be left in the rig during drilling and which are positioned low enough in the rig to avoid interference with operation of the rotary table. The jacking mechanism also includes a structure which is adapted to be connected to the piston and cylinder means when the casing or other well pipe is to be lowered and which is actuable upwardly and downwardly and carries one of two pipe gripping units for progressively jacking the pipe downwardly by vertical reciprocation of that structure. The reciprocating structure may take the form of a beam extending between two pistons and actuable thereby, with a second beam being connected to cylinders within which the pistons are contained and being utilized to support the second gripping element. In one form of the invention, the rotary table when in use is supported by this second beam.

Method of drilling and casing a well

A hole is drilled laterally from a main well bore by lowering a drilling unit into the bore in a position of extension essentially longitudinally thereof, and then swinging the unit to a position of extension transversely of the well bore to drill the lateral hole. The drilling unit is desirably held by a carrier as the drilling unit and carrier are lowered into the well, and preferably is of a self-propelling character adapted to move entirely out of the carrier and grip the wall of the lateral hole in a manner transmitting the reactive forces of the drilling operation directly to the earth formation.
