The invention relates to novel curcumin and tetrahydrocurcumin derivatives, which have been modified at one phenolic group to incorporate more-reactive groups. The present description discloses a polymeric composition which is a melt-processed alloy comprised of (a) a polyarylene sulfide resin, (b) a polyaryl-ether-ketone resin, and a reactive compound which results in (c) a graft copolymer of the polyarylene sulfide resin and/or the polyaryl-ether-ketone resin in addition to the starting resins. Exemplary melt-processed polymeric compositions can be made by reacting an alkoxy silane with the polyarylene sulfide resin and/or the polyaryl-ether-ketone resin to produce a graft copolymer of a portion of one or both of the resins, sufficient to render the composition uniform and homogeneous. It is normally preferred for the exemplary organosilane compound, to be an amino silane. The subject invention further reveals an insulated wire comprising (1) an electrical conductor and (2) a layer of the melt-processed alloy composition; and fiber reinforced composites comprising fibers substantially fully impregnated with the alloy polymeric composition.

Polyether ether ketone/polyphenylene sulfide blend

The invention relates to novel curcumin and tetrahydrocurcumin derivatives, which have been modified at one phenolic group to incorporate more-reactive groups. The curcumin and tetrahydrocurcumin derivatives are in the form of monomers, dimmers, and polymers.

Disclosed are polyarylene sulfide compounds and melt-processed shapes therefrom in the form of extruded profiles, tubings, pipes, fibers, monofilaments and films. Embodiments especially adapted from the invention are elongated spooled tubings exhibiting a smooth surface texture, spoolability and chemical resistance. The compounds contain polyarylene sulfide, a highly saturated, hydrogenated (if applicable) nitrile copolymer; and an organofunctional silane. The compounds exhibit spherical microdomains of the nitrile copolymer in diameters ranging from 0.1 &#x3bc;m-100 &#x3bc;m.

Flexible, hydrocarbon-resistant polyarylenesulfide compounds and articles

The present invention provides multi-arm siloxane-based molecules suitable for use as a drug delivery vehicle comprising a central core molecule that comprises a cyclic or cubic siloxane, and a plurality of arms attached to the central core molecule, wherein each arm comprises an organic moiety. The multi-arm siloxane-based molecules described herein are suitable for encapsulation of a therapeutic agent. The invention further includes pharmaceutical compositions comprising the claimed multi-arm siloxane-based molecules and an encapsulated therapeutic agent in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Methods of making and using the multi-arm siloxane-based molecules are also provided.

Poly(arylene sulfide) compositions having improved processability

Melt-blown microfiber webs are prepared from polyarylene sulfide polymers, particularly polyphenylene sulfide. A small amount of a phosphite or phosphonite compound is added to the extruder feedstock. The additive essentially eliminates spurious polymer particle formation at the extruder die openings, even over sustained production periods. The polyarylene sulfide microfiber webs so produced are thus essentially free of spurious particulates, and the web defects which may be caused by such particulates.

A resin composition which comprises: (A) from about 99.5 to about 70 percent by weight, based on the total weight of components (A) and (B), of a poly(arylene sulfide) having a melt viscosity of from about 300 to about 8,000 poise at 1,200 sec.sup.-1 and 310.degree. C.; (B) from about 0.5 to about 30 percent by weight, based on the total weight of components (A) and (B), of a substantially non-functionalized, emulsion cured silicone rubber which is the condensation product of (i) an organopolysiloxane having at least two active hydrogen functional groups per molecule, and (ii) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule, said silicone rubber being melt dispersable with the poly(arylene sulfide); and (C) from about 0.1 to about 2.0 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of components (A), (B) and (C) combined, of an aminosilane, wherein said composition has been prepared by combining components B and C with component A in the absence of a dispersion medium.

Polyarylene sulfide resin composition

A polyoxymethylene molding composition which exhibits improved ambient and heat aged color stability includes a metal deactivator and calcium hydroxystearate. One preferred composition of the invention includes: (a) greater than about 95 weight percent of polyoxymethylene, (b) between about 0.01 to about 0.1 weight percent of 3 salicyloyl-amido-1,2,4 triazole or tris-2-tert.butyl- 4-thio-(2'methyl-4'hydroxy-5'tert.butyl) phenyl-5-methyl phenyl phosphite, (c) between about 0.015 to about 0.4 weight percent of 2,4,6-triamino-sym-triazine, (d) between about 0.25 to about 1.0 weight percent of tetrakis(methylene-(3,5-di-tert-butyl- 4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate)) methane, (e) between about 0.05 to about 0.2 weight percent of calcium 12-hydroxystearate, and (f) between about 0.1 to about 0.3 weight percent of N-N'-ethylenebisstearamide. Due to their enhanced color stability, the compositions of this invention find particular utility as molded automobile components.

Color stabilized polyoxymethylene molding compositions

A thermoplastic polyketone polymer composition having thermoset properties, processes for its production, and articles made thereof are disclosed. This composition also having improved continuous use temperature and thermal stability properties can be produced by crosslinking, at elevated temperatures, a thermoplastic polyketone resin with a suitable basic material.
