Described herein is an absorbent article. The absorbent article includes an assembly of components and an adhesive composition joining at least two of the assembly of components together. The adhesive composition includes from about 50 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of one or more copolymers and a blend of one or more heterophase copolymers. The one or more copolymers include from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of monomer units selected from ethylene. 1-butene, and mixtures thereof. The one or more copolymers also include from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of propene monomer units. The adhesive composition is free of polyisobutylene and has a viscosity of from about 2,000 mPa·s to about 11,500 mPa·s at 150° C.

Absorbent article comprising an adhesive composition

Described herein is an adhesive composition including a copolymer. The adhesive composition has a viscosity of from about 2,000 mPa&#xb7;s to about 11,500 mPa&#xb7;s at 150&#xb0; C. The adhesive composition has a Storage Modulus at 37&#xb0; C. of from about 3 MPa to 9.5 MPa. The adhesive composition has a Yield Stress at 37&#xb0; C. of from about 0.8 MPa to about 1.45 MPa.

Adhesive composition for absorbent articles

Described herein is an adhesive composition including (a) from about 70 wt. % to about 90 wt. % of one or more copolymers, and (b) from about 10 wt. % to about 30 wt. % of one or more heterophase copolymers. The one or more copolymers include (i) from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of monomer units selected from the group consisting of ethylene, 1-butene, and mixtures thereof; and (ii) from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of propene monomer units. The adhesive composition is free of polyisobutylene. The adhesive composition has a viscosity of from about 2,000 mPa&#xb7;s to about 11,500 mPa&#xb7;s at 150&#xb0; C. The one or more heterophase copolymers includes a first heterophase copolymer and a second heterophase copolymer.

A continuous process for pre-contacting coordination polymerization catalyst components with each other before they are introduced into a polymerization reactor at 130 degrees Fahrenheit to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, where the activated coordination catalyst is contacted with at least one monomer to produce amorphous poly alpha olefin (APAO), the process involving blending a Ziegler-Natta pro-catalyst with a liquid carrier forming a Ziegler-Natta pro-catalyst slurry and flowing a co-catalyst mixture into the Ziegler-Natta pro-catalyst slurry continuously in a pre-contacting device, forming an activated Ziegler-Natta catalyst; continuously injecting the activated Ziegler-Natta catalyst into the heated polymerization reactor while simultaneously, and continuously, injecting propylene monomer and any other alpha-olefin monomers, and hydrogen gas for molecular weight control, initiating an exothermic reaction forming a monomer-polymer-catalyst slurry then continuously stirring the monomer-polymer-catalyst slurry forming an amorphous poly alpha olefin with a saturated backbone.

Process for pre-contacting catalyst components ex-reactor to produce amorphous poly alpha-olefins

A hot-melt formulation includes a butene-1-co-hexene-1 copolymer formed from butene-1 and hexene-1 monomers synthesized using a supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst reacted with an organometallic cocatalyst, a styrenic block copolymer with less than 15 percent bound styrene, a high melt viscosity metallocene catalyzed polyolefin, a high melt viscosity polypropylene with a melt viscosity above 18,000 cps, and a low molecular weight polyethylene wax, wherein the melt viscosity of the wax is less than 1,000 centipoise at a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Low molecular weight butene-1-co-hexene-1 amorphous poly alpha olefins for hot-melt adhesives with enhanced properties

A method to make a hot-melt polymer formulation with from 50 wt % to 100 wt % of a propylene-co-butene-1-co-hexene-1 terpolymer or a propylene-co-hexene-1 copolymer, each polymer made using a metal chloride supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst, at a process temperature between about 130 degrees Fahrenheit and about 200 degrees Fahrenheit and at a reactor pressure sufficient to maintain the propylene in a liquid phase without solvent; using 1 wt % to 20 wt % of at least one of: a metallocene-catalyst made polymer; a homopolymer of propylene with 0.1%-5% functionality; and a styrene block copolymer; and wherein the melt viscosity of the terpolymer or copolymer formulation is controlled by addition of hydrogen gas as a chain transfer agent.

Method for making hexene-1 containing amorphous poly alpha olefins for improved hot-melt adhesives

A hot-melt adjuvant-free formulation includes a butene-1-co-hexene-1 copolymer formed from butene-1 and hexene-1 monomers with a supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst, a styrenic block copolymer with less than 15 percent styrene, a high melt flow index metallocene, a high melt flow rate polypropylene with a melt flow above 18000 cps, and a low molecular weight polyethylene wax, wherein the molecular weight is less than 1000 centipoise at a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Low molecular weight butene-1-co-hexene-1 amorphous poly alpha olefins for hot melt adhesives with enhanced properties

A hot melt adhesive formulation includes 60 to 99 wt. % of an amorphous propylene-co-hexene-1 polymer component based on the total weight of the hot melt adhesive without the use of flammable solvents, 20 to 80 wt % of hexene-1 co-monomer based on the total weight of the amorphous propylene-co-hexene-1 copolymer component, 20 to 80 wt. % of a propylene co-monomer based on the total weight of the amorphous propylene-co-hexene-1 copolymer component, and from 1 to 40 wt. % of a co-adjuvant based on the total weight of the hot melt adhesive. The hot melt adhesive formulation has rolling ball tack from 2 to 50 centimeters at ambient temperature after conditioning at ambient temperatures for 24 hours. The hexene-1 monomer to propylene monomer ratios are from 4:1 to 1:4.

Amorphous hexene-1 based polymeric hot melt adhesive

A process for reducing unreacted monomers and condensable and non-condensable hydrocarbon fractions in an APAO which includes introducing molten APAO into heated and insulated jacketed pipe while injecting a stripping agent based on the total weight of the contents of the jacketed pipe; maintaining the stripping agent with the molten APAO stream from ten seconds to ten minutes, forming a flowable heated mixture at 250 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit in the heated and jacketed pipe forming a flowing heated mixture; and passing the flowing heated mixture through a thin film evaporator assembly, while maintaining the temperature of the flowing heated mixture, stripping the organoleptic species and acids and volatile organic components from the flowing heated mixture and removing and recovering a condensable fuel fraction and a non-condensable hydrocarbon gas with energy, while simultaneously forming an odor-reduced, cleaned molten APAO-based HMA.

Propylene-based amorphous poly-alpha-olefins (APAOs) formulated with hexene-1 monomer containing amorphous poly-alpha-olefins for use in hot melt adhesives

Adding a compatible high melt flow rate (MFR), low melt viscosity, hydrogenated styrene block copolymer to amorphous poly alpha-olefins (APAOs) results in adhesives that show acceptably high elongation and tensile strength, and which, when applied by different hot melt application methods onto elastic strands, result in personal hygiene article components that perform comparably to such components assembled using just styrene block copolymer components formulated with compatible tackifiers, processing oils and other additives.

Performance APAO hot melt adhesives containing high melt flow rate hydrogenated styrene block copolymers

Adding a low molecular weight (or alternatively, high melt flow rate), functionalized, isotactic polypropylene (iPP) to a hot melt adhesive (HMA), composition containing a propylene-butene-1, and/or a propylene-ethylene amorphous poly alpha olefin (APAO) copolymer, in addition to other co-adjuvants (such as a tackifier or a plasticizer), results in an APAO-based HMA that shows improved tensile strength and bonding properties, over an HMA that contains only the propylene-butene-1 and/or the propylene-ethylene APAO copolymer (with or without a tackifier and/or a plasticizer).

APAO hot melt adhesives containing a low molecular weight, functionalized, isotactic polypropylene

A polymer blend having an open time including a high molecular weight average, predominantly atactic flexible polyolefin polymer having a heat of fusion of about 15 to 60 J/g, and a low molecular weight average, atactic polyolefin polymer having a heat of fusion of about 0.1 to 20 J/g, wherein the high molecular weight polymer and low molecular weight polymer are sufficiently miscible to impart a single glass transition temperature to the polymer blend, and the low molecular weight polymer is present in an amount sufficient to impart a melt viscosity of greater than about 8,000 cPs at room temperature and a crystallinity below about 25 J/g to the polymer blend. The invention further includes methods for preparing such polymer blends, and the products produced from the polymer blends, which are useful for hot melt adhesives, asphalt and bitumen applications such as roofing membranes, polymeric modifiers and the like.

Low- and high-molecular weight amorphous polyalphaolefin polymer blends

Amorphous propylene/1-butene and ethylene/propylene copolymers having increased tensile properties produced by the process comprising: reacting propylene and 1-butene monomers or ethylene and propylene monomers in the presence of a catalyst system comprising: (a) a solid supported catalyst component is prepared by the method comprising: (i) co-comminuting magnesium halide support base and aluminum trihalide in a molar ratio from about 8:0.5 to about 8:3 in the absence of added electron donor; and (ii) then co-comminuting the product of step (i) in the absence of added electron donor with sufficient titanium tetrahalide to provide a molar ratio of magnesium halide to titanium tetrahalide from about 8:0.1 to about 8:1.0; (b) a trialkylaluminum co-catalyst, having from 1 to 9 carbon atoms in each alkyl group in an amount such that the Al/Ti ratio is between about 50:1 and about 500:1; and (c) an alkoxy silane component of the formula R.sub.n Si(OR').sub.4-n where n=1-3, R=aryl or alkyl and R'=C.sub.1-3 alkyl.
