Heat regenerators and related methods enable heat transfer in an embedded structure of a heat regenerator. The heat regenerators enable a reduction of the pressure drop due to fluid flow through the heat regenerator and consequently an increase of power density. A heat regenerator includes a housing having a primary hot heat exchanger and a primary cold heat exchanger between elements for the oscillation of a primary fluid. The secondary fluid unidirectionally flows from the heat sink into the primary cold heat exchanger. The secondary fluid exits from the primary cold heat exchanger and unidirectionally flows towards the heat source. The secondary fluid S enters the primary hot heat exchanger and exits as the unidirectional flow of the secondary fluid S of the primary hot heat exchanger towards the heat sink. Between both primary heat exchangers, the porous regenerative material is positioned as part of the regenerator.

Method for heat transfer in the embedded structure of a heat regenerator and the design thereof

The present invention lies in the field of electrocaloric energy conversion. More specifically, the present invention relates to improvements in systems and methods which employ electrocaloric materials as a source of temperature variation in electrocaloric refrigeration processes. Even more specifically, the present invention relates to the application of electrocaloric materials in combination with a working fluid communicating with a heat source and a heat sink in counter flow.

Method for electrocaloric energy conversion

The device () for continuous generation of cold and heat by the magneto-calorific effect, comprises a chamber (), divided into two adjacent compartments (), separated by a wall (). The chamber () contains a rotating element () made from at least one magneto-calorific material, a first circuit () with a first heat exchange fluid circulating therein and a second circuit () with a second heat exchange fluid circulating therein. The chamber () is connected to magnetic device () for generating a magnetic field in the region of the compartment () in which the rotating element () is located. When the above is set in rotation the part thereof located in the first compartment () is magnetized upon undergoing an increase in temperature. On passing into the second compartment (), the part is demagnetized upon undergoing a cooling. The heat and the cold thus generated are transmitted by the heat exchange fluids respectively to user circuits for heat () and cold () for recovery and use for ulterior purposes.

Method and device for continuous generation of cold and heat by means of the magneto-calorific effect

The device (), for the continuous generation of cold and heat by magneto-calorific effect, comprises a mixture of a heat exchange fluid and particles made from at least one magneto-calorific material, superconductor or phase-change material circulating through a first heat exchanger () subject to a magnetic field generated by magnetic device (), associated with the first heat exchanger (). On passing into the generated magnetic field, the particles undergo an increase in temperature and heat the mixture in the first heat exchanger () and on leaving the magnetic field, the particles undergo a reduction in temperature to cool a mixture entering a second heat exchanger (). A cold circuit () extracts the cold from the second heat exchanger () and a hot circuit () extracts the heat from the first heat exchanger ().
