A casing patch system comprising a base tubular with two anchor/seals coupled to the base tubular and an expansion tool comprising two expansion devices positioned such that upon expansion of the first anchor/seal, the second expansion device engages the second anchor/seal, which allows reduction of the expansion forces due to sequential expansion and reduces the length of the displacement necessary for setting the casing patch, eliminating the need for resetting the thruster, which allows deployment and setting of the casing patch on a wireline. In another embodiment, the expansion device comprises two swages coupled to a shaft at a distance between them approximately equal to the length of the anchor/seal. The swage diameters are selected such that the expansion forces of the anchor/seal by front and back swages are approximately equal, resulting in significantly less expansion force compared to the expansion force necessary for expansion by a single swage, which allows a high degree of anchor/seal expansions unachievable by single swage expansion devices.

Casing patch system

An expandable liner hanger includes an anchoring element having multiple circumferential ridges that include flow relief grooves which prevent buildup of hydrostatic pressure between the liner hanger and well casing during expansion of the liner hanger. Upon liner hanger expansion the ridges come in high interference with wellbore casing and couple the liner hanger to the wellbore casing. According to another embodiment of the invention, the ridges are formed by a spiral ridge extending along an outer periphery of the hanger thus providing a pressure relief passage for the fluid.

Expandable liner hanger

A device and method for an expandable anchor sleeve. An expandable anchor sleeve may comprise a front-end and a back-end for a wellbore comprising a base casing. The expandable anchor sleeve may further comprise an anchoring element having a conical shape with a front-end radial thickness being larger than a back-end radial thickness, not less than a difference between corresponding radii of maximum and minimum internal diameters of the base casing and providing the anchoring element is in interference contact with the base casing upon radial expansion of the expandable anchor sleeve by an expansion swage propagating in the front-end direction. A method for installation of an expandable anchor sleeve in a well comprising a base casing which may comprise connecting an expandable anchor sleeve to an expansion, deploying the expandable anchor sleeve, activating the expansion device, and removing the expansion device from the well.

Expandable anchor sleeve

Disclosed is an expansion assembly and method to expand tubulars. In embodiments, an expansion assembly for disposition in a wellbore includes an expandable tubular and an expansion tool that has a swage and a thruster. In addition, the expansion tool has a front anchor assembly that has a front anchor having an open position providing an anchoring relationship with the internal wall and a closed position providing the front anchor with a diameter less than an internal diameter of the expandable tubular. The front anchor assembly also has a sensor positioned on an opposing side of the front anchor from the expansion swage providing that while the sensor is positioned inside the internal wall the front anchor may be in an open position or in a closed position while upon exit of the sensor from the end portion the sensor brings the front anchor in a permanently closed position.

Apparatus and method for expanding tubulars in a wellbore

An expandable tubular liner includes a first tube, a second tube, a mechanical coupling for coupling the first and second tubes, and an insert coupled to the mechanical coupling. The insert is capable of forming a metallurgical bond with at least one of the tubes when energy is injected into the insert.

Expandable connection

A flow activated valve includes an outer body and a piston disposed in an inner cavity of the outer body. The flow activated valve also includes one or more fluid passage exits in the outer body and one or more piston fluid passages in the piston. The one or more fluid passage exits and the one or more piston fluid passages allow fluid flow out of the valve. The flow activated valve also includes a flow restriction member disposed in a piston inner cavity. In addition, the flow activated valve includes a shear member disposed in the outer body, and a bias member disposed in an inner cavity of the outer body. The flow activated valve further includes a position control member disposed in the piston and a sealing member.

Reverse action flow activated shut-off valve

A method and apparatus for expanding tubulars are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus for radially expanding a tubular in a wellbore is disclosed. The apparatus includes an expansion swage. In addition, the apparatus includes at least one anchoring device for selective and releasable anchoring of selected parts of the apparatus to an inner surface of the tubular. The apparatus also includes a thruster providing a force for longitudinal movement of the expansion swage inside the tubular. Moreover, the apparatus includes a hydraulic valve for selective control of a flow of operating fluid to the thruster. The hydraulic valve includes a valve cylinder slidably positioned on a shaft and a position control device for selective and releasable securing a position of the valve cylinder on the shaft. The hydraulic valve also includes an elastic device for shifting the valve cylinder between two end positions.

Method and apparatus for downhole tubular expansion

A pipe expansion device having an expansion cone tapering in forward direction, a cone-guide, an actuator for displacing the expansion cone and the elongated cone-guide relative to each other, a retrievable end anchor, and a middle anchor joined to the expansion cone.

Expansion device for expanding a pipe

A method of creating a borehole in an earth formation is provided. The method involves the steps of drilling a section of the borehole and lowering an expandable tubular element into the borehole whereby a lower portion of the tubular element extends into the drilled borehole section, radially expanding the lower portion of the tubular element so as to form a casing in the drilled borehole section, and separating an upper portion of the tubular element from the lower portion so as to allow the separated upper portion to be moved relative to the lower portion.

Method of creating a borehole in an earth formation

A method and apparatus for tubular expansion are disclosed. In an embodiment, an apparatus for radially expanding a tubular comprises at least two expansion swages. At least one expansion swage is axially movable relative to other expansion swages. In addition, the apparatus includes sealing means capable of providing fluid tight pressure chambers between the expansion swages and an expanded portion of the tubular.

High performance expandable tubular system

A method and apparatus expand tubulars with a tubular expansion apparatus. In an embodiment, a tubular expansion apparatus includes an expansion swage. In addition, the tubular expansion apparatus includes an actuator. Moreover, the tubular expansion apparatus includes at least two anchors. The tubular expansion apparatus further includes at least one anchor longitudinally moveable relative to the other anchor while both anchors are engaged with the inner diameter of the tubular.

Apparatus for radial expansion of a tubular

A method of installing an expandable tubular assembly in a wellbore, the tubular assembly including a plurality of expandable tubular elements, comprising: installing a first tubular element in the wellbore; installing a second tubular element in the wellbore such that an end part of the second tubular element extends into an end part of the first tubular element, arranging a radially deformable body around the overlapping portion; and radially expanding the end part of the second tubular element against the end part of the first tubular element such that the end part of the first tubular element becomes radially expanded and the deformable body becomes radially deformed, wherein a body of cement is present between the first tubular element and the wellbore wall, and wherein the deformable body is a fluidic volume that is pumped between the first tubular element and the wellbore wall before hardening of the cement.

Method of installing a tubular assembly in a wellbore

A system is provided for expanding a tubular element extending into a wellbore formed in an earth formation. The system includes an expander arranged to expand the tubular element by virtue of axial movement of the expander through the tubular element, an activating system for inducing the expander to move through the tubular element, the activating system including at least one activating tool, and a control system for controlling the activating system, including a remote control unit and for each activating tool a respective controller. The remote control unit is arranged to transmit an acoustic signal to an acoustic conductor selected from the tubular element and another elongate member extending into the borehole, each controller being arranged to receive the acoustic signal from the acoustic conductor and to control the corresponding activating tool upon receipt of the acoustic signal.

System for expanding a tubular element in a wellbore

A mono-diameter wellbore casing. The mono-diameter wellbore casing is formed by plastically deforming and radially expanding a first tubular member within a wellbore. A second tubular member is then plastically deformed and radially expanded in overlapping relation to the first tubular member. The second tubular member and the overlapping portion of the first tubular member are then radially expanded again.
