A multiple wavelength laser processing system is configured with a multiple wavelength laser source for generating a multiple wavelength coaxial laser processing beam. The laser processing system further includes a multiple wavelength optical system to deliver the coaxial laser processing beam to a laser-material interaction zone on the surface of a workpiece such that each of the a first and a second laser wavelengths in the processing beam impinge at least a portion of the interaction zone as respective first and second concentric laser spots. The multiple wavelength optical system includes a multiple wavelength beam collimator, a configurable chromatic optic, and a laser processing focus lens, wherein the configurable chromatic optic provides an adjustment to the relative focus distance of the first and second laser wavelengths.

System and method laser for processing of materials

A frequency conversion laser system is configured with a single mode (SM) laser source outputting a pulsed pump beam at a fundamental frequency and a nonlinear optical system operating to convert the fundamental frequency sequentially to a second harmonic (SH) and then third harmonic (TH). The nonlinear optical system includes an elongated SHG crystal traversed by the SM pulsed pump beam which generates the SH beam. The SHG crystal has an output surface inclined relative to a longitudinal axis of the SHG crystal at a first wedge angle different from a right angle. The nonlinear optical system further has an elongated THG crystal with an input surface which is impinged upon by a remainder of the pump and SHG beams which propagate through the THG crystal at a walk-off angle therebetween to generate a third harmonic (TH) beam, the input surface of the THG crystal being inclined to a longitudinal axis of the THG crystal at a second wedge angle. The output and input surfaces of respective SHG and THG crystals are inclined so as to minimize the walk-off angle between SH and IR pointing vectors in the THG crystal thereby improving the conversion efficiency and TH output beam's ellipticity.

High efficiency laser system for third harmonic generation

A multiple wavelength laser processing system is configured with a multiple wavelength laser source for generating a multiple wavelength coaxial laser processing beam. The laser processing system further includes a multiple wavelength optical system to deliver the coaxial laser processing beam to a laser-material interaction zone on the surface of a workpiece such that each of the first and a second laser wavelengths in the processing beam impinge at least a portion of the interaction zone as respective first and second concentric laser spots. A high dynamic range projector (HDRP) is configured with at least one spatial light modulator having red, green and blue digital light projector (DPL) chips, a light laser source including red, green and blue (RGB) light laser systems which are operative to illuminate respective DLP chips; and a central processing unit (CPU) coupled to the DLP engines and respective RGB light laser systems, wherein the CPU is operative to determine an optimal average power of each of the RGB light laser systems at a frame rate based on a desired contrast ratio.

A laser system for effective injection seeding is configured with a master oscillator lasing a narrowband seed radiation which is characterized by a single longitudinal master mode injected into a slave oscillator so that the latter generates a broadband slave radiation with a dominant slave mode and side slave modes. The slave radiation is coupled into an input of a SM fiber laser amplifier operative to output an amplified radiation with the spectra which is substantially as narrow as the spectra of the slave radiation.

A method of controlling an optical output of a laser diode includes applying a bipolar current pulse to the laser diode, thereby substantially suppressing the emission tail of the optical output of the laser diode. A device for generating sub-nanosecond intense optical pulses includes a driver unit operative to generate a plurality of bipolar current pulses, and a semiconductor laser diode driven by the bipolar current pulses and operative to emit the intense optical pulses each of which has a substantially suppressed or completely eliminated emission tail.
