A system includes an ADC configured to generate a superposition signal by the ADC being configured to under-sample an input signal at a sampling frequency in which the input signal that is input to the analog to digital converter has a bandwidth and the sampling frequency is less than a Nyquist rate for the bandwidth of the input signal. The system includes a digital signal processor (DSP) configured to digitally process the superposition signal to separate the superposition signal into a plurality of bitstreams, where each of the plurality of bitstreams corresponds to information in a different one of a plurality of separable, distinct frequency bands within the input signal. The information in the superposition signal for at least one of the said plurality of bitstreams is present in the input signal at frequencies greater than the sampling frequency, and the DSP is configured to output said plurality of bitstreams.

System having an analog to digital converter (ADC) and a digital signal processor

A modem for a non-standalone network includes a 5G-NR modem and an E-UTRA modem. The 5G-NR modem includes a cell search module which determines first timing information. The first timing information includes first times indicative of the times of receipt of one or more first radio frames from a first 5G-NR base station measured relative to a network time. The 5G-NR modem also provides for the sending of system frame timing difference (SFTD) information for the first base station to a network controller by sending the first timing information to the E-UTRA modem. The E-UTRA modem then determines and forwards the SFTD information using the first timing information and second timing information. The second timing information is determined by the E-UTRA modem and includes second times indicative of the times of receipt of one or more second radio frames from a second E-UTRA base station.

Wireless communication system and method

A mechanism is provided by which a radar image can be generated using mmWave transmissions from 5G-NR type base station antenna arrays. Base stations in 5G-NR use a beam searching sequence utilizing a defined synchronization signal burst (SSB) during their communication initialization with client devices. Embodiments utilize these SSB signals as a radar 'chirp' to build a radar image of the base station surrounding in parallel with the typical 5G-NR communication initialization. Antennas on the base station can receive the reflected signals to define the radar image, in conjunction with correlation and time-management logic to properly associate received reflected signals with original transmitted signals. Such information can be processed by a synthetic aperture radar processing logic to form the radar image.

Digital radar imaging using 5G-NR millimeter wave base station antenna solutions

Saturation of an A/D converter at a receiver is addressed by forcing a controlled clipping of a peak signal pulse in the analog domain and restoring the pulse using a digital algorithm within the receiver. An A/D converter saturates and clips the peak pulses in the signal. Saturated peaks are restored by an algorithm operating in a baseband digital signal processor that utilizes information related to the time intervals where clipping was applied, along with information associated with the portion of the pulse below the clipping threshold. The time interval information is available from the A/D converter or through use of a separate pulse clipping detection algorithm. Through the use of embodiments of the present invention, the effect of signal clipping on receiver performance is reduced and therefore allows for increased clipping of the received signal.

Clipped signal pulse restoration after deliberate peak clipping

A transmitter includes a plurality of user-specific channels, with each user specific channel associated with a different set of user equipment (UE) receive antennas. For precoding, the transmitter generates a baseline channel matrix reflecting the characteristics of the communication medium employed to transmit data to the different user equipment (UEs). For each user-specific channel, the transmitter generates a complementary channel matrix based on the baseline channel matrix, then performs matrix decomposition to eliminate selected terms of the complementary channel matrix that interfere from other communication channels of the transmitter. The transmitter can reuse portions of one rotational matrix set generated for one channel to generate the rotational matrix sets for one or more other channels.

Complexity reduction for transmitter precoding

A decoder decodes a set of data streams received at a receiver based on a tree search that employs a subset of decoding constellation points. The decoder can form a tree wherein each level of the tree corresponds to one of the set of data streams. Each level of the tree includes a plurality of nodes corresponding to a set of candidate constellation points, wherein the set of candidate constellation points indicating possible values of data received via the set of data streams. For tree levels beyond an initial tree level, the decoder expands each node (that is, calculates the metrics for nodes of the next tree level) for only a subset of candidate constellation points, wherein the subset of candidate constellation points is based on a sign value of the node.

MIMO decoding based on quadrant identification

A method, system, and apparatus are provided for computing soft bits in a non-linear MIMO detector which decodes a signal received at a plurality of receive antennas using channel estimate information and a decoding tree to produce output data for a bit estimation value which includes a maximum likelihood solution along with a naturally ordered vector identifying all explored node metrics and node indices, where soft bits are computed for each bit estimation value by determining a set of bit-masks through repetition and indexing operations applied on the explored node indices, masking the naturally ordered vector with the set of bit-masks to generate masked node metrics, determining candidate soft bit values by subtracting metrics of all nodes that form the maximum likelihood solution from the masked node metrics, and determining a final soft bit value by identifying which of the candidate soft bit values has a lowest value.

Soft bit computation unit for MIMO detection and error correction

Embodiments include signal transmission methods and transmitting devices for a multi-antenna wireless communication system. The method comprises mapping one or more modulation symbols onto one or more transmission layers, thereby creating one or more modulated transmission layers and mapping the modulation symbols of the one or more modulated transmission layers onto resource elements of respective one or more time-frequency resource grids. The method further comprises performing precoding for each of the one or more time-frequency resource grids.

A nonlinear MIMO-OFDM detector includes a vector arithmetic unit (VAU) that sequentially computes first metrics corresponding to a first current tree level of a first search tree and second metrics corresponding to a second current tree level of a second search tree. A sorting and indexing unit (SIU) that sorts the first metrics and the second metrics sequentially received from the VAU and that sequentially provides first indices of lowest first metrics and second indices of lowest second metrics to the vector arithmetic unit. The lowest first metrics are first inputs to the VAU for a first next tree level of the first search tree and the lowest second metrics are second inputs to the VAU for a second next tree level of the second search tree. The VAU and the SIU are pipelined to compute the second metrics concurrently with sorting and indexing of the first metrics.

Nonlinear MIMO-OFDM detector

A transmitter generates precoding matrices for communication channels of a transmitter, The transmitter includes a plurality of user-specific channels, with each user specific channel associated with a different set of user equipment (UE) receive antennas. For precoding, the transmitter generates a baseline channel matrix reflecting the characteristics of the communication medium employed to transmit data to the different user equipment (UEs). For each user-specific channel, the transmitter generates a set of null space vectors wherein only a subset of the generated null space vectors generated by the transmitter are used to precode the data. To identify the combination of null space vectors to be used for each channel, the transmitter calculates a quality score for each such combination of null space vectors. The transmitter uses the subset of null vectors that yields the highest score to precode the data.
