The present invention relates to a device, system and method for obtaining vital sign related information of a living being. The proposed device comprises an input unit for receiving an input signal generated from light received in at least one wavelength interval reflected from a skin region of a living being, said input signal representing vital sign related information from which a vital sign of the living being can be derived, a processing unit for processing the input signal and deriving vital sign related information of said living being from said input signal, an orientation estimation unit for estimating the orientation of said skin region, and a control unit for controlling an illumination unit for illuminating said skin region with light to illuminate said skin region based on the estimated orientation of said skin region and/or for controlling said processing unit to derive vital sign related information from said input signal obtained during time intervals selected based on the estimated orientation of said skin region.

System and method for obtaining vital sign related information of a living being

A system and a related method extract physiological information from remotely detected electromagnetic radiation. The system includes an interface configured for receiving a data stream including image data representing an observed overall region of at least one subject of interest. A partitioning unit defines a plurality of sub regions in the overall region. A classifier classifies the plurality of sub regions into at least one indicative type of region and at least one auxiliary type of region. The at least one indicative type of region includes at least one indicative region of interest at least partially representing the subject of interest. The at least one auxiliary type of region includes at least one reference region. The system further comprises a data processor configured for processing at least one sub region classified as region of interest, thereby obtaining vital information.

System and method for extracting physiological information from remotely detected electromagnetic radiation

The invention provides a method for obtaining and evaluating spirographic and gas exchange data, involving measuring a concentration of a breathing gas gc(Vx) for a plurality of volumes Vx of breathing gas mix, wherein the measuring is performed on inhaled breathing gas mix, further involving determining an apparatus dead space ApDS, of breathing gas mix in the apparatus not taking part in gas exchange, by evaluating the measured concentrations gc(Vx) as a function of the volume V of the inhaled breathing gas mix. The use of inhaled breathing gas mix allows to determine the apparatus dead space, which is an important parameter when evaluating ventilation efficiency and the like. Furthermore, the invention provides a method in which inhalation and exhalation parts of a spirogram are synchronized, by matching features thereof, in order to further improve the accuracy of gas exchange volumes and derived data. Finally, the invention provides a spirographic device and a patient ventilation apparatus, incorporating the present method.
