A system and method for determining a position and orientation (e.g., pose) of a rigid body. The rigid body may be a position enabled projector, a surveying rod, a power tool, a drill robot, etc., in a given space. The position of the rigid body is specified by a set of three coordinates and the orientation is specified by a set of three angles. As such, based on these six values, the position and orientation of the rigid body can be determined.

System and method for measuring position and orientation of a rigid body

A Position and Orientation Measurement Engine (POME) is a mobile camera system that can be used for accurate indoor measurement (e.g., at a construction site). The POME uses a plurality of cameras to acquire images of a plurality of targets. If locations of the plurality of targets are precisely known, images of the targets can be used to determine a position of the POME in relation to the plurality of targets. However, to precisely determine locations of the plurality of targets can be time consuming and/or use expensive equipment. This disclosure discusses how to use a camera system with an electronic distance measuring unit to determine locations of the plurality of targets.

A device for optically measuring the distance from a reflective target object is disclosed. The device has a beam source, a detector, a beam shaping system with a transmission optical system and a reception optical system, and a laser beam shaping element that can be arranged in the path of the laser beam. The laser shaping element is designed as a shaping aperture, where the shaping aperture converts the laser beam into a shaped laser beam with one or more opening angles and the opening angles are smaller than the maximum critical angle of 0.3 mrad.

A method for transmitting objects onto a boundary surface by a system comprising a marking device having a print field, a locator device, and a control device is provided. The method includes selecting a first object to be marked having a first starting position and first target coordinates. The dimensions of the first object are bigger than the dimensions of the print field. The method also includes determining by the locator device a current position of the marking device, and determining by the control device a current print field of the marking device based on the current position of the marking device. The method also includes comparing by the control device the first starting position of the first object to the current print field of the marking device.

A method for measuring a measurement distance between a rotating laser, which emits a first laser beam that can be rotated about a rotational axis and/or a stationary second laser beam, and a laser receiver, which has a detection field with a measurement function. The rotating laser is inclined in a direction of inclination by an inclination angle. The position of incidence of the inclined laser beam on the detection field of the laser receiver is determined as a measurement point. The distance between the measurement point and a zero position of the detection field is stored as the height, and the measurement distance between the rotating laser and the laser receiver is determined using the inclination angle and the height.

A device for optically measuring the distance from a reflective target object is disclosed. The device includes a beam source, a detector, a beam shaping system having an optical transmission system and an optical receiving system, and a laser beam shaping element that can be arranged in the path of the laser beam. The laser beam shaping element is designed as a transmission aperture array with a first array of transmission pixels, where the transmission pixels are switchable by a first control unit between a transmission state impermeable to the laser beam and a transmission state at least partially permeable to the laser beam.

The device includes a beam source, a detector, a beam shaping system with a transmitter lens and a receiver lens and a laser beam shaping element which can be positioned in the beam path of the laser beam. A method for reporting as-built data of a project is disclosed. In one embodiment, at least one attribute of a task perform by a handheld tool is recorded at the handheld tool. The attribute of the at least one task is reported via a wireless communication link to an information management system. The at least one attribute of the task is used to update a record of a project stored at the information management system.

A method for calibrating a measurement device by a target object is disclosed. Prior to calibrating the measurement device the suitability of the target object is inspected by multiple evaluation criteria. The calibration of the measurement device by the target object is only performed if the target object meets all evaluation criteria. To evaluate the target object, a camera device takes an image of the target object without using a laser beam and an image of the target object with using a laser beam, with the images then evaluated by image processing and object identification procedures.

A system and a method for determining a position and an orientation of an object relative to a defined reference frame is disclosed. A plurality of targets are disposed at known locations relative to the defined reference frame. A head assembly is disposed on the object, where the head assembly includes a plurality of cameras. A method and device for determining position coordinates of a target object is disclosed. The method includes positioning a target device on the target object, transmitting a laser beam onto the target device, reflecting the laser beam off of the target device, recording an image of the target device by a camera device with the reflected laser beam as a light reflection in the image, and determining a focus of the light reflection in the image. The reflected laser beam is received and a distance to the target object is calculated from the received beam. A first offset is calculated from a focal length of the camera device, the calculated distance to the target object, and a first image coordinate of the focus of the light reflection in the image. The position coordinates of the target object are calculated from the distance and the first offset.

Method and device for determining the position coordinates of a target object

A system for projecting an image, including layout information, on a surface in a building under construction has a projector mounted on a moveable support for supporting a worker at a work position in the building. The projector projects an image on a surface above the moveable support in response to an image signal defining the image to be projected. The image indicates the location of connectors, anchors, and holes to be affixed to, or cut through, the surface. A system determines the two dimensional position of the projector in the building, and a distance measuring system for determines the distance from the projector to said surface. A processor, responsive to a memory having stored building plan images, provides an image signal to the projector adjusted for the two dimensional location of the projector and for the distance from the projector to the surface.

A method of automated handheld tool task verification is disclosed. In one embodiment, at least one operating parameter for performing a task is received at a handheld tool. It is then verified at the handheld tool that it is configured with the at least one operating parameter. The handheld tool then generates data verifying that the task was performed in accordance with the at least one operating parameter.
