A biodegradable interference screw for directly affixing a transplant to a bone, the interference screw being provided with at least one longitudinal groove designed to co-act with a tool for insertion of and if necessary, removal of the interference screw from an opening provided in the bone to receive both the transplant and the interference screw.

Biodegradable interference screw and tool for attaching a transplant to a bone

A biodegradable fixation element is provided for anchoring a transplant on bone. A rigid body is made of a biodegradable material, said body having an outer side and a hollow interior surrounded by a wall of said body. Numerous perforations are provided in said wall of said body for allowing growth of bone material into said interior of said body via said numerous perforations. It is proposed that the perforations are formed between said anchoring members and said perforations are formed as holes passing through said wall of said body (FIG.).

Biodegradable fixation element

An interference screw serves for anchoring a flexible transplant like a tendon or a ligament in an opening in a bone. The screw has a screw body, a head at one end of said body and a penetrating end at an opposite end of said head and is provided with an outer threading. The outer threading is formed as a sharp threading adjacent to said penetrating end and is formed as a blunt threading in a following region (FIG. ).

Interference screw

An auxiliary graft fixation device for use with an interference screw to secure soft tissue ligament grafts within a bone tunnel. The device is in the form of a spherical member having a throughbore which enables it to be tied to the end of a soft tissue graft. The device enables it to be pulled into the bone tunnel with the soft tissue ligament graft while enabling the graft to be secured within the bone tunnel by an interference screw and preventing the graft from sliding past the interference screw and out of the tunnel.
