The described embodiments perform a proximity unlock operation. For the proximity unlock operation, a first electronic device in a locked operating state detects that an authorized second electronic device is in proximity to the first electronic device. Based on detecting the authorized second electronic device in proximity to the first electronic device, the first electronic device transitions from a locked operating state to an unlocked operating state. In the described embodiments, the transition to the unlocked operating state occurs without the user performing a manual authentication step that is performed in existing electronic devices to cause the transition from the locked operating state to the unlocked operating state.

In an example method, a user interface is presented by a device on a touch sensitive surface of the device. The device presents a keyboard image on a touch sensitive surface of the device. The device then receives a first touch input selecting a key of the keyboard image and responsive to receiving the first touch input, displays a primary character associated with the selected key. While maintenance of physical contact is detected by the touch sensitive surface, the device receives a touch gesture starting at the key of the keyboard image and continuing in a diagonal direction along a face of the key. Responsive to receiving the touch gesture, the device displays an alternative character associated with the selected key.

Unit conversion methods and systems that use an auto-scaling algorithm to sort conversion results. A plurality of unit conversion results, which represent a conversion of an input value in an input unit, are sorted into a sorted list based on the scale of the values in the results and the sorted list is presented (e.g. displayed) to a user. In one embodiment, the sorting is done without regard to the units in the conversion results and values between zero and one are transformed before sorting.

In an example method, a user interface is presented by a device on a touch sensitive surface of the device. The device receives a first touch input selecting a numeral presented in the user interface. Responsive to receiving the first touch input, a numeric keypad interface and a display element are presented. The device receives a second touch input selecting the display element. Responsive to receiving the second touch input, a rotary interface including the display element is presented. While the user is maintaining physical contact with the touch sensitive surface, the device receives a rotational touch gesture dragging the display element about the rotary interface. Responsive to receiving the rotational touch gesture, the numeral is modified.

A tool for analyzing software is enhanced to provide multiple views of a stack trace, with each view having a different level of detail. Different views may be lightly simplified, moderately simplified, or heavily simplified. The display of a complete stack trace includes entries for all stack frames in the stack trace. The display of a simplified stack trace includes entries for fewer than all stack frames in the stack trace, thereby 'hiding' or 'collapsing' entries for some of the stack frames, relative to the complete stack trace display. After a user specifies a level of complexity with which to show a stack trace, the enhanced analysis tool GUI updates the stack trace display according to the specified level. A complexity level is associated with a set of heuristics that is used to create a view of a stack trace at that complexity level.

An application programming interface is provided in an object-oriented programming platform for developing applications. A method comprises, in response to a first message received at a first object that contains one or more properties, creating a second object that responds to a second message sent thereto responsive to sending of the first message to the first object and returning the second object. By returning, for example, key-value collection proxies by specific key-value coding methods a read-only or a read-write access may be allowed to a collection of a container object's related objects. A specific implementation of one object's class may change over time without requiring changes in another object's implementation.

The described embodiments include an electronic device that performs configuration operations. During operation, an administrative electronic device receives an indication that an electronic device that is presently checked out to a user is to be checked in. The administrative electronic device then requests a backup file with information from the electronic device, wherein the information comprises information about one or more changes made to the electronic device since the electronic device was checked out. Next, the administrative electronic device receives the backup file from the electronic device. The administrative electronic device then restores the electronic device to an initial state, wherein, in the initial state, changes made to the electronic device since the electronic device was checked out are reversed to return the electronic device to the initial state.

Art editor within an integrated development environment displays a related file automatically. When a user enters a command to open a first file in the editor, the editor not only displays the first file's content (in a 'primary editor') but also automatically displays a second file's content (in a 'related editor'), where the second file is related to the first file. In other words, when a first file is displayed in the editor, a file that is related to the first file is automatically displayed also. If the primary editor later displays a different file, then the file shown in the related editor will likely change as well, since the file shown in the related editor will be related to the &#x201c;new&#x201d; file in the primary editor. In other words, whatever is displayed in the related editor &#x201c;tracks&#x201d; whatever is displayed in the primary editor.

Systems and methods of configuring electronic devices can include installing a first operating configuration on a first target device, running at least a first operational iteration of the first target device, saving at least a portion of a first file system resulting from the running of the at least first operational iteration of the first target device, and creating a first clone of the at least portion of the first file system at a separate host device. The first clone can be substantially identical to the corresponding at least portion of the first file system. The first clone can be evaluated via the host device. The host device can present the clone data in an integrated development environment such that a user can evaluate the clone data.
