Relative movement between a tool and a workpiece for machining the workpiece with a machine tool is controlled by defining a machine coordinate system (MKS) relative to a machine base of the machine tool and a rotation coordinate system (RKS) relative to the MKS by defining the origin of the RKS in the MKS, defining the orientation of a selected coordinate axis of the RKS in the MKS, defining an axis of rotation around which the RKS rotates in the MKS, defining an angular velocity with which the RKS rotates around the axis of rotation, defining a tool path in the RKS, and controlling the relative movement according to the defined tool path. With this procedure, complex movements of a machine tool, in particular in connection with so-called interpolation turning, can be described or programmed in a relatively simple manner.

A bevel gear drive with two bevel gears rotates about respective rotation axes intersecting at an intersection point, forming an angle of intersection. A computer determines the tooth shape of these tooth flanks based on data other than a tooth shape. The data are characteristic for a particular contact path represented by a sequence of contact points. The tooth shape of the tooth flanks is determined for several contact paths, with the interacting tooth flanks at all contact points having a common normal, which passes through a pitch point located between the two rotation axes and spaced from the intersection point equal to the radius r. Geometry data for the bevel gear are determined from the shape of the tooth flanks and stored in a format suitable for automatically generating a parts program for a processing machine with at least five axes.

A method and system for describing a three-dimensional path of an industrial processing machine, such as a machine tool, a robot and the like, is disclosed. According to the disclosed method and system, the path is described by a curve that includes at least one interpolation, wherein at least one interpolation parameter is a function of an angle along the three-dimensional path.

Damping of mechanical oscillation in a shaft that is provided by feedback wherein the output signals of multiple feedback devices are negatively coupled and added to a desired speed signal of a motor speed controller of the driving motor is disclosed. At least one sensor and/or measuring system can be provided for measuring an actual position value. The actual speed of the shaft can be determined by differentiation from the shaft position value measurements or by integration from shaft acceleration measurements. The measured or actual speed of the shaft can be supplied as an input signal to each feedback element. Each feedback element is specifically tuned to an oscillation frequency range of the shaft that is to be damped. The invention provides an easy and cost-effective way of damping mechanical oscillations that have limited frequency ranges.
