An optical system is provided. The optical system includes a light emitting diode that generates light emissions. The optical system includes a collimator that receives the light emissions and that generates a collimated beam. The optical system includes an etendue re-shaper that splits the collimated beam into beam parts and that arranges the beam parts adjacent to each other to generate an adjacent beam part arrangement. The optical system includes micro-lens arrays that receive the adjacent beam part arrangement and that generate beams. Each of the beams includes an optimum optical efficiency or a far field intensity distribution.

Optics for slim style head lighting

An optical coupler is described herein. The optical coupler includes at least one optical coupler unit. The at least one optical coupler includes an optical coupler entrance face and an optical coupler exit face. The optical coupler entrance face is configured to face, and receive light emitted by, at least one LED during operation. The optical coupler exit face is shaped as a Fresnel lens with a focal point at or behind a light emitting area of the at least one LED and is configured to face a lightguide entrance face of a slab lightguide. The optical coupler exit face has dimensions that match at least a part of the lightguide entrance face. The optical coupler entrance and exit faces are configured to refract light emitted by the at least one LED during operation.

An automobile rear lighting includes a first emitter that emits a first light through a cover and a second emitter that emits a second light, different from the first light, through the cover such that an output light including the first light and the second light is emitted through the cover. The automobile rear lighting also includes a driving apparatus. The driving apparatus provides a first driving current to the first emitter and a second driving current to the second emitter. The driving apparatus adapts a magnitude of the first driving current and the second driving current based on at least one of at least one property of the cover or at least one optical component of the automobile rear lighting and a pre-defined color coordinates specification for the output light.

Embodiments include an automotive LED lighting module comprising an LED lamp comprising a number of light-emitting diodes; a first driver module configured to drive the LED lamp at a first DC voltage level (U_hi); a second driver module configured to drive the LED lamp at a second DC voltage level (U_lo), which second DC voltage level (U_lo) is lower than the first DC voltage level (U_hi); and a switch arrangement comprising an interface for connection to a two-level DC voltage supply (PS), and wherein the switch arrangement is configured to connect the first driver module to the LED lamp when the input voltage is at a first level and to connect the second driver module to the LED lamp when the input voltage level is at a second level (U_lo). Automotive LED lighting module

An LED lamp includes a lamp base for insertion into a reflector of an automotive front lighting assembly; a panel extending from the lamp base with a first vertical side facing into one half of the reflector and a second vertical side facing into the other half of the reflector; a primary light source including a set of LED dies on each vertical side of the panel; a two-part shield including a first shield half shielding the LED dies on the first vertical side of the panel and a second shield half shielding the LED dies on the second vertical side of the panel. The two-part shield essentially has the form of a shield in a functionally equivalent filament lamp for providing a low beam. A lighting arrangement includes such an LED lamp; a reflector to receive the lamp; and an electrical interface for connecting to a controller.

The present invention relates to an optical lens package, said lens package () having a lens body comprising a base (), a central surface section () opposite to the base () and a peripheral surface section extending between the central surface section () and the base (). The central surface section () is centered with respect to the optical axis () of the lens package () and has a convex shape in at least a first cross-sectional plane including the optical axis (). At least a portion () of the peripheral surface section has a concave shape in said first cross-sectional plane. With such a design of the optical lens package () in addition to a central collimated light bundle with high luminous flux also side visibility is achieved by means of the concave portion () up to a high angle with respect to the optical axis (). This side visibility is achieved without additional optics thus lowering the production costs of such an optical system compared to a solution using additional optics.
