The disclosed airbag for a motor vehicle for supporting the knees of a vehicle occupant in the event of a crash, comprises an inflatable portion, a first fastening region for fastening the airbag to a motor vehicle part, at least one second, detachable fastening region for fastening the airbag to the same or different motor vehicle part, and a connection located between the second, detachable fastening region and the inflatable portion. The second, detachable fastening region is configured to detach from the inflatable portion if a force exceeding a predetermined value acts on the connection between the second, detachable fastening region and the inflatable portion.

Airbag

One embodiment of the invention relates to an air bag module, in particular for a knee air bag. The air bag module includes an air bag housing, a air bag cushion, a tubular gas generator, a air bag cushion holding device, and a gas guiding device, to which the tubular gas generator is fastened. The gas guiding device is integrally formed with the air bag cushion holding device.

Knee air bag module

The disclosed airbag comprises an upper airbag layer, a lower airbag layer, and an intermediate layer dividing the interior of the airbag into a first chamber and second chamber. An outlet is provided through which gas from the first chamber is able to enter the second chamber. The outlet is configured such that, according to an amount of gas introduced into the airbag through the inlet aperture, gas selectively fills substantially only the first chamber or both first and second chambers.
