A superconducting wire (), contains NbTi superconducting material and Cu, with one enclosing tube (), in particular, a copper enclosing tube. At least three Al blocks (-) are disposed peripherally distributed in the enclosing tube () and at least three sections containing NbTi (-) are also disposed peripherally distributed in the enclosing tube () and separate the Al blocks (-) from one another in the peripheral direction. The Al blocks (-) each make large-surface contact with their adjacent sections containing NbTi (-). A stabilized NbTi superconducting wire is thereby provided, which has low weight and which can be manufactured at low cost. The superconducting wire has a reduced risk of crack formation, in particular, during wire drawing.

A method for producing a superconducting wire (), wherein an internal wire (), which contains superconducting filaments (), is provided with a normally conducting stabilizing structure (), is characterized in that, in a continuous or quasi-continuous process, one or more sheath elements () are shaped and/or placed around the internal wire (), so that the entire circumference of the internal wire () is enclosed by one or more sheath elements (), and all seams () of sheath element ends (--) facing each other are soldered and/or welded. A method for producing a superconducting wire is thereby provided, which restricts the cross section of the superconducting wire to a lesser extent and which permits the use of lead-free solder.

Method for producing a superconducting wire, in particular using lead-free solder

A superconducting wire (), containing NbTi superconducting material and Cu, comprising a multiplicity of hexagonal elements, which, as seen in cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the superconducting wire (), have an at least approximately hexagonal outside contour is characterized in that at least a portion of the hexagonal elements is constituted as Cu&#x2014;Al composite elements (), wherein, in cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the superconducting wire (), the Cu&#x2014;Al composite elements () are each constituted with an Al core () and a Cu sheath () that surrounds the Al core (). The NbTi superconducting wire is thereby stabilized and has low weight as well as a reduced risk of crack formation during manufacturing, especially during wire drawing.

NbTi superconductor with reduced weight

Disclosed herein are superconducting composites, and preliminary products therefor, having a core comprising a superconducting phase, a first casing surrounding the core, and having an inner area abutting the core and having a first magnesium concentration and an outer area having a second magnesium concentration greater than the first magnesium concentration, wherein the second magnesium concentration is, on average, between 5 and 40 atomic percent. Desirably, the superconducting phase comprises a MgBphase. This arrangement allows for methods for producing the composites that reduce or eliminate subjecting the superconducting phase to mechanical stresses.

A multifilament superconductor () has a core area (), several superconductor filaments () and reinforcement filaments (). The superconductor filaments () and the reinforcement filaments () are arranged, so that they have a regular two-dimensional matrix () in the cross-section of core area (). The reinforcement filaments () consist of tantalum or a tantalum alloy, and the superconductor filaments () each have a core (), made from a powder metallurgically produced superconductor, which is enclosed by an inner shell (), made of a non-superconducting metal or a non-superconducting alloy. The core area () is enclosed by an outer shell (), made of a non-superconducting metal or a non-superconducting alloy.

Multifilament superconductor, as well as method for its production

The invention relates to a superconductor assembly comprising a metallic superconductor and a ceramic superconductor, which are mechanically and electrically interconnected to form a one-piece hybrid superconductor.

Superconductor assembly

To coat metallic or ceramic surfaces with hard substances by means of brazing, a powder mixture of 60 to 90% silver, 2 to 35% copper, 2 to 30% tin and/or indium and 2 to 20% titanium, zirconium, hafnium, chromium, vanadium, tantalum, niobium, titanium hydride, zirconium hydride and/or hafnium hydride together with an organic binder and then the hard-substance powder are deposited on the surface and heated to 900.degree. to 1200.degree. C. The particle sizes of the metallic powders must be less than the particle size of the hard-substance powder.

Method for coating surfaces with hard substances

There is described an electrical contact piece made of a silver-metal oxide material as contact coating, a carrier made of copper, or iron and an intermediate layer which furnishes a high adhesive strength of the contact coating to the contact carrier even at a high number of switchings. The intermediate layer consist essentially of a silver alloy having 2 to 12 weight % of tin, indium, and/or germanium.

Electrical contact piece

For soldering non-noble metal containing silver contacts on contact carriers, solders are needed which permit a direct soldering without production of an oxide free intermediae layer. This is attained with solders that consist of a silver-copper alloy with cadmium and/or tin and/or indium whereby the composition must be so selected that the liquidus temperature does not exceed 750.degree. C.

There is described a material for electrical contacts based on silver having 5 to 20 weight % tin oxide and 0.5 to 5 weight % tungsten oxide which has the welding strength reduced further without producing an increased switching temperature. The material contains additionally 0.1 to 5 weight % of bismuth oxide.
