A device for simultaneous three-sided trimming of products in a plurality of cutting stations includes a common upper knife carrier operable in a vertical motion, blades to be attached to the upper knife carrier for at least front edge trimming and top and bottom trimming of the products and a first drive for driving the upper knife carrier. A conveyor system has top-related and bottom-related pairs of conveyor belts for conveying the products through the cutting stations of the device and a second drive driving the conveyor system. The first and second drives are self-contained, mutually independent drives connected to one another by control units. The top-related and bottom-related pairs of conveyor belts of the conveyor system are each driven by self-contained, mutually independent, position-controlled drives.

Cutting device

A book binding machine includes a collating machine, a perfect binder and a transfer device disposed between the collating machine and the perfect binder. The collating machine and the perfect binder are actuated by a common control device. In each case, one transport segment is assigned to a respective book block clamp by the control device. The control device also has a program which, if a defective or missing book block clamp is detected, actuates the collating machine in such a way that no book block is collated for that book block clamp. A method for operating a book binding machine is also provided.

A method collates multiple-layer brochures containing a plurality of n signatures having a gathering and stitching machine. Here, in a first step, the depositing of a first signature takes place by a first feeder into a first transport segment and, in a second step, the depositing of a second signature takes place by a second feeder into a second transport segment. Correspondingly further depositing of further signatures can take place by further feeders into further transport segments. Finally, depositing of an n-th signature takes place by an n-th feeder into an n-th transport segment. The signatures which are deposited on a gathering element in this way are transported through the stitching station and the trimming station and are delivered in the delivery station. A gathering and stitching machine performs the method and has a control unit which has a machine program for collating multiple-layer brochures having a plurality of n signatures.

Gathering and stitching machine and method for operating the gathering and stitching machine

A gatherer stitcher for collating signatures made of paper, paperboard and the like, for stitching the collated signatures and for delivering the stitched signatures, includes a gathering section, a stitching station and a delivery station. The stitching station has a stitching carriage with at least one stitching head and, during a stitching operation, the stitching carriage is moved by a stitching carriage drive at a speed of the collated signatures. A switching unit is disposed between the stitching carriage drive and the stitching carriage for adapting a stitching carriage movement to a gatherer chain pitch, that is to say for adapting a horizontal reciprocating movement of the stitching carriage, and for adapting a horizontal distance between the stitching carriage and the delivery station.

A gatherer stitcher for brochures has a stitching machine, a delivery station that receives brochures step-by-step during operation, a trimming apparatus, and transport components (brochure ejector, trimmer feed) that transport the brochures from the delivery station to the trimming apparatus during operation. Sensors assigned to the stitching machine and the transport components output signals defining their phase position, and a control system processes the signals. One of the transport components (brochure ejector; trimmer feed) is activated in such a way that the brochures assume a correct position in the trimming apparatus at a predetermined phase angle of the stitching machine, without regard to their width. Changeover times in the event of job changes required when the brochure width changes are shortened.

Gatherer stitcher for brochures

An apparatus for pressing a cover onto a printing material block that is moved in a transport direction has a first pressing element that can be moved in a first direction and one or more second pressing element that can be moved transversely to the first direction. The first pressing element, in particular, is a pressing table moving in the vertical direction and the second pressing element one or two pressing rail(s) that can be moved in the horizontal direction. The apparatus has a drive unit, in particular with a servo motor, to which a variable control profile can be applied via a connection to a control unit. The variable control profile allows the movement of the pressing rails, for example their stroke or the course of their stroke, to be adapted to the current processing job. The apparatus is particularly suited for use in adhesive binders.

To optimize the effort involved when converting a gatherer stitcher which transports initially continuously transported brochures step by step into a stitching station and subsequently into an output station, sensors are assigned to machine components affected by geometrical parameters that are relevant to the process when there is a change of job order and to a reference component. The sensors emit signals defining the phase positions of the machine components, and a controller processing the signals coordinates the phase positions with at least one of the parameters in such a way that the brochures arrive in the output station in a center-oriented manner.

Gatherer stitcher

A gatherer stitcher having a gatherer chain configuration includes roof segments forming a ridge region and drivers having respective stop surfaces and being mounted so as to be adjustable between an operating position and a position pivotable away therefrom. An auxiliary driver is restricted to the ridge region and carried by a respective roof segment directly adjacent the stop surfaces. The auxiliary driver, in the operating position of the adjustable driver, forms a combined stop surface together with the adjustable driver.

A device for the assembly of brochures from folded sheets includes a continuous conveyor which defines a direction of conveyance, feeders which deliver the folded sheets to the continuous conveyor, and controls for controlling the operation of the feeders and the continuous conveyor. In order to avoid waste and operational malfunctions, the controls provide the feeders located downstream from a first feeder with a law of motion which is dependent on the format of the folded sheets.

Device for collating laminar workpieces

A method for precisely aligning a product to be stapled in relation to a stapling device in a gatherer stapler, includes the steps of determining an exact position of the product to be stapled, comparing the determined position with an expected position of the product, supplying a determined positional deviation to a drive as a control variable and performing a compensatory movement by controlling at least one of respective drives of the gathering chain and of the stapling device so that the determined positional deviation is compensated for at the start of the stapling operation. A device for performing the method and a gatherer stapler are also provided.
