A copolymer of polyalkylphenyl siloxane and alkylfluoroalkyl siloxane obtainable by reacting a dispersion of ingredient (i) an alkylfluoroalkyl siloxane and ingredient (ii) one or more polyalkylphenyl siloxane(s) in the presence of ingredient (iii) a basic catalyst at a temperature of between 40&#xb0; C. to 300&#xb0; C.

Organosiloxane compositions

Silicone oil-in-water emulsions containing a polysiloxane containing polymer is prepared by first preparing a polysiloxane containing polymer by the polymerization of siloxane containing monomers and/or oligomers in the presence of an inert organopoly siloxane and/or an organic fluid, a suitable catalyst and optionally an end-blocking agent; and quenching the reaction if required. If required one or more surfactants may be introduced into the polysiloxane containing polymer to form a homogenous oil phase. Water is then added (in an amount of 0.1-10 percent by weight based on total oil phase weight) to the homogenous oil phase to form a water-in-oil emulsion. Shear is applied to the water-in-oil emulsion to cause inversion of the water-in-oil emulsion to an oil-in-water emulsion. Finally, if required the oil-in-water emulsion can be diluted by adding more water.

Silicone polymer emulsions

A method of using lubricant compositions to reduce wear between two surfaces exposed to a load condition of at least 1 GPa is provided. The lubricant compositions comprise polysiloxane base oils having alkylaryl or a combination of alkyl and aryl functionality. The polysiloxane base oils may be defined according to the formula: wherein R, R', and R&#x2033; are independently selected, such that R is an alkyl group having between 1-3 carbon atoms; R&#x2032; is an alkylaryl group comprising alkyl functionality with 3-12 carbon atoms and aryl functionality with 6 to 12 carbon atoms; R&#x2033; is an alkyl group having between 1-3 carbon atoms or an alkylaryl group comprising alkyl functionality with 3-12 carbon atoms and aryl functionality with 6 to 12 carbon atoms; and m and n are integers, such that 8&#x3c;(m+n)&#x3c;500.

Method of reducing friction and wear between surfaces under a high load condition

A method of using energy-efficient lubricant compositions to reduce wear between two surfaces exposed to a high shear condition is provided. The lubricant compositions comprise polysiloxane base oils having alkyl, aryl, or a combination of alkyl and aryl functionality. The polysiloxane base oils may be defined according to the formula: wherein R, and R' are independently selected, such that R is an alkyl group having between 1-3 carbon atoms; R&#x2032; is an alkyl or aryl group having between 6 to 20 carbon atoms; and m and n are integers, such that 25&#x3c;(m+n)&#x3c;500 and the ratio of m/(m+n) is greater than 0.05 and less than 1.00.

Energy efficient, temporary shear thinning siloxane lubricants and method of using

The invention relates to a process for preparing a cyclic siloxane copolymer, a water repellent composition and the use for treating porous substrates like concrete, especially reinforced concrete.

Process of preparing a siloxane copolymer

The invention provides a water repellent composition for treating porous substrates comprising an emulsion which includes water, at least one surfactant, and a siloxane copolymer having the formula (I) wherein R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; a has a value of from 1 to 12; R' is an alkyl radical having 8 to 12 carbon atoms, b&#x2267;2; (a+b) is at least 5. This composition shows a good depth of penetration of porous substrates especially reinforced concrete and has a low Volatile Organic Content to ASTM D 5095. 

Water repellent for concrete

A mechanical method of making an oil-in-water microemulsion containing (A) a polysiloxane and (B) an inert fluid selected from an inert siloxane fluid and an inert organic fluid, where the average emulsion particle size is between 1 and 140 nanometers, is disclosed. The process involves the following steps: i) preparing an oil phase comprising a polysiloxane containing mixture by the polymerization of silane or siloxane containing monomers and/or oligomers in the presence of an inert fluid, a suitable catalyst and optionally an end-blocking agent; and ii) where required quenching the polymerization process; wherein the inert fluid is substantially retained within the resulting polysiloxane containing mixture; iii) if required, mixing one or more surfactants into the oil phase; iv) adding water to the oil phase, followed by applying agitation or shear to the mixture to arrive at an oil-in-water microemulsion; v) optionally diluting the oil-in-water microemulsion by adding more water.

Preparation of silicone microemulsions

Silicone pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) compositions and methods for their preparation are provided. In one embodiment, PSAs are formed from a silicone polymer mixture by condensation polymerization of low viscosity polyorganosiloxanes in inert solvents and/or silicone fluids, and optionally adding a silicone resin (MQ) during polymerization. The silicone polymer mixture formed may also be mixed with a silicone resin (MQ) and bodying catalyst, and bodying is allowed to continue until the desired reaction product is formed.

Process for the preparation of a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive

A process for preparing a cyclic siloxane copolymer, a water repellent composition and the use for treating porous substrates like concrete, especially reinforced concrete.

The invention relates to branched organopolysiloxanes and to their preparation and use. A branched organopolysiloxane is prepared by the reaction of an alkoxysilane with a substantially linear organopolysiloxane containing at least one hydroxyl or hydrolysable group bonded to silicon, in the presence of a phosphazene catalyst. The branched organopolysiloxanes obtained can be suitable for use in a moisture curable sealant composition capable of curing to a high modulus seal, with less tendency to gel than when using other siloxane polycondensation catalysts. Phosphazene catalysts also have the advantage that the content of undesired low molecular weight cyclic silicones in the polymerization product is low.

Branched organopolysiloxanes

A hydrosilylation curable composition containing a comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of an organic polymer having on average at least 1.4 alkenyl groups per molecule; (B) an amount sufficient to cure the composition of a crosslinker having on average at least 1.4 Si&#x2014;H groups per molecule; (C) a platinum group metal-containing catalyst in an amount sufficient to effect curing of the composition; (D) 0.1 to 20 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of (A) of an alkoxy silyl substituted organic oligomer having a number average molecular weight in the range of 200 to 5,000, having a polymer backbone selected from the group of polybutadiene, polyisoprene, polyisobutylene, copolymers of isobutylene and isoprene, copolymers of isoprene and butadiene, copolymers of isoprene and styrene, copolymers of butadiene and styrene, copolymers of isoprene, butadiene and styrene and polyolefin polymers prepared by hydrogenating polyisoprene, polybutadiene or a copolymer of isoprene and styrene, a copolymer of butadiene and styrene or a copolymer of isoprene, butadiene and styrene, and optionally a titanium compound having Ti&#x2014;O&#x2014;C bonds. The composition provides improved self adhesion to substrates.

Hydrosilylation curable compositions

A method of making a polysiloxane containing polymer is described. The method comprises the steps of the polycondensation of a) 100 parts by weight of oligomers comprising non-cyclic siloxane containing oligomers having at least two condensable groups per molecule alone or in a mixture with one or organic oligomers having at least two condensable groups per molecule in the presence of: b) at least 2 parts by weight per 100 parts of (a) of one or more condensation catalysts comprising a Bronsted acid or a Lewis acid c) at least 15 parts by weight per 100 parts of (a) of one or more liquefied gases or a supercritical fluid therefrom. Subsequent to the reaction completion the polysiloxane containing polymer is recovered by expansion of the liquefied gas(es) or supercritical fluid (c).

Preparation of organosiloxane polymers

This invention relates to aqueous emulsions comprising a polyorganosiloxane and a wax, and to methods of production of such emulsions. The emulsions are of the type oil-in-water. An organopolysiloxane is polymerized in admixture with a molten wax, thereby forming a blend of the wax with an organopolysiloxane of increased molecular weight, and the said blend of polymer and molten wax is emulsified in water in the presence of a surfactant. The emulsions are useful in personal care applications such as on hair, skin, mucous membrane or teeth. The emulsions are also useful in applications such as paints, water based coatings, textile fiber treatment, leather lubrication, fabric softening, fabric care in laundry applications, homecare, release agents and oil drag reduction.

Organopolysiloxane emulsions and their production

This invention relates to organopolysiloxane (silicone) compositions containing an active material chosen to have a desired effect in the composition, such as a perfume, sunscreen, vitamin, drug, biocide, pest repellent, catalyst or cooling agent. The active material is generally an organic material which is not silicon-containing. In particular the invention relates to such composition in which the release of the active material from the composition is inhibited or controlled. The active material is incorporated in a blend of a wax with an organopolysiloxane which has been formed by polymerization in the presence of the wax. It was found that by polymerizing an organopolysiloxane in admixture with molten wax, a stable wax silicone dispersion is obtained which allows ready incorporation of an active material such as a perfume and which releases the perfume only slowly, and may be controlled to release the perfume or other active material in desired circumstances.

Organopolysiloxane compositions containing an active material

A one or two part organopolysiloxane composition capable of cure to an elastomeric body, the composition comprising a polymer having a polymer backbone selected from an organopolysiloxane backbone and a telechelic backbone, which polymer has not less than two reactable silicon-bonded groups selected from alkenyl group, condensable groups, silyl-hydride groups, 5 to 50% by weight of the composition of an extender; a suitable cure catalyst; and optionally a siloxane and/or silane cross-linker having at least two groups per molecule which are reactable with the reactable groups in (a) and/or one or more fillers. The extender is selected from an alicyclic ester having at least two ester groups, and a boiling point of at least 180&#xb0; C. or a mixture thereof having a boiling point range commencing at 180&#xb0; C. or above; each ester group being the same or different and comprising from 2 to 30 carbon atoms.
